Thread: A rangers two-cents

Im a ranger, but i am going to feel the crunch of the CU also, as the devs consider ranger a non-combat class, so we will not get the HAM increase, so we will be less effecient than the scout dabbling combatants.

But here are some ideas that you guys should try and push on the devs..

1.Keep the resource stats the same, and re-work experimenting so the 12pt crafters still have an edge on 10pt'ers......I dont care if you are a one week old AS, these veteran AS have been paying customers of SOE for a much longer time, and have many alts, they have worked hard to get there resources, and tapes...this is just un-fair, and a really bad way to treat long-time customers, in fact its terrible business practices, of all people SOE must know that!

2. Allow Armoursmiths to wear EVERY type of armour, except of course the opposing factional armour...if these guys can make it, they can wear it!!!! sure they will get the huge penalties for not having the mitigation, but common!!! This also is a bad way to treat long-time customers....

thanks for listening, feel free to flame my ideas, or agree with them, im just a ranger looking in!

Thanks for the post Ranger Shilo.

I agree with you all the way...

But I don't think SOE does.

I'm sure they have their secret reasons to make the game "better" (easier).

(*cough* With EP3 coming out and a potential grow of new customers and all. *cough*)

I dont agree with only AS being able to wear -every- type of armor. But i WOULD like to see something more than just PSGs being wearable by crafters. Cause I PSG dont do -that- much to save your ass.

Um, why would an armorsmith be fighting a rancor? Any armorsmith going toe-to-toe with a rancor deserves to have his ass handed to him in tiny bite-sized chunks.

This is presuming he is alone and has no elite combat professions. If this is the case, then he deserves to have his ass handed to him in slightly larger bite-sized chunks.

I never did agree with the concept of soloing krayts and rancors.

Umm... I don't think an AS or non-combat crafter would choose to take on a Rancor. But if you have to head to say, Dathomir, for evergreen wood and need to place harvestors, what do you expect to find? Fluffy bunnies?

And before anyone says "well have a combat player protect you", It's not always possible and if everyone is going to be forced to group to get xp (wow, no change from the current solo gorup system) it's going to be pretty expensive and time consuming just trying to find somebody who WANTS to WASTE their time tagging along with a crafter on a harvestore/survey run.

And Shilo2, welcome to the AS boards! Thanks for your input andRangers have my support

Geez...it was an example of the uselessness of PSGs for non-combatants. In other words they do nothing for Kinetic damage and we all know ALOT of the mobs out there close to melee range whenever pressed. But being one of the new named resources is Dath Plast, you may have to go to the Rancor Fields to drop a harv and thus run the risk of actually being toe-to-toe with a Rancor as an AS and thus the PSG you're toting might as well be a broken sandstat.

Try to give a humorous example and someone takes me seriously. Only in SWG.......

No, I expect to find fluffy bunnies on Corellia. But a non-combat characterventuring into the wilds of Dathomir alone and without combat skills to plant a harvester would be like arstaurant cook diving alone into shark-infested water to geta particular species of shrimp. Stupid. There's other ways to get these resources...unfortunately, as you pointed out, they are time-consuming and expensive. As MS/MAS and novice pistoleer, I can see I will probably have to buy most of my resources after the CU--or pick up another account and create a combat character.

The comment about soloing big nasties was the lingering result of an argument I just had with someone who was mad that he could no longer do it. It had no place here.

Wolfstrong: I did see the humor...hence the phrases "bite sized chunks" and "slightly larger bite-sized chunks". Oh, and the flippant and totally unnecessary use of the word "ass". I'll stop now.

Shilo2: You have my support too. I don't understand why Rangers are not considered a combat class.

I don't get why Rangers are non-combat after the CU. You have to kill creatures to harvest.... I guess that makes as much sense as an AS not being to wear armor when he makes it....

Wow, writing that made me think of a robot making cars. He can make them, but can't drive them. We've become NPC ASs.

I agree. The first thing I thought about when I saw the cu for armorsmith's was, the robotic arms at chrysler making all the cars on an assembly line. I was like, man if I wanted to be on an assembly line, I would work for a car manufacturer. This cu, with all the hand making of armor, is gonna be crappy at best. I used to do this when I first started as back in oct 2003, and would spend 8 to 9 hours on weekends just making armors. That was from friday to sunday. I dont know about you, but I have no desire to do that again.

Shilo, I feel your pain mate. My other char was a ranger to help get hides. We are getting shafted there too.

Rangers have never been "combat" per say. They have always needed a combat prof to actually kill the creatures. I believe the problem (and I apologize if I am not correct) lies in the amount of skill points needed to be invested in Ranger and not getting as much of a bonus over someone with all combat and maybe novice scout. The bonus to health and so on for the combat classes outweighs the tactical and harvesting bonus of being a ranger.

What good is harvesting more if you're easier to kill and can't take on as many creatrures?

What I want to seethe difference inharvest rate fora Master Swordsman w/ Hunting4 VS. Master Rangerwith his remaining, but equivalentskill pts, divied up into one combat class compare. WIth the lower armor, lower Health, lower damage and hinderance mitigations, I bet my lunch money the MS wins. I wonder how different that rate will be.

For your effort rangers, you get to do that cool lookie over the horizon thing. We're with ya and support ya. No way you'll keep up with all the hide we need. Supply goes down, prices go up.

Well, seeing as to Master Ranger you have to complete a trapping tree. I dont know if you have ever been a scout or a Ranger, but you cannot throw traps without entering combat. In the CU, when i throw a trap i am vulnerable to attacks, because of the wind up-wind down. To harvest creatures i need to kill them, although i once met a BE who mastered Ranger, then dropped his combat skills, and relied on his pets to kill stuff....But as a DE you arnt going hunting for the soul purpose to harvest as much resources as humanly possible.
