Due to the large number of posts floating around on armor repair, I thought it might be useful to have a discussion on this topic. So, in this thread go ahead and post all your observations, questions and answers. Once we've amassed a sufficient amount of data, I'll read it and try to put together some information on armor repair for the Guide.

Based on the armor repairs I've performed just in the last month, I would say that my rough numbers would be 50% repaired with reduced condition, 25% repaired with minor blemishes, and 25% complete repair failure. The conditions on the armor pieces varied from almost zero condition to half condition. This is with my master armorsmith character, a +1 armor repair mod, and 99.3% functionality repair tool kits.

Hi, thanks for the work guys. What I am curious about itis the best time to repair. Should I wait til my armor gets to condition 5 and then repair it. So that if it breaks I got the most use out of it possibly. Or does letting it get that low increase the chance it will break. So in fact it is better to fix it at 50%, 75%, etc..?

Anyway, I will watch this thread for I am very curious of you guys data.

Thanks

I've often heard to repair at about 50%. More than that and its not really worth the risk, and less than that your chances seem to drop off. I certainly would do it before it gets to 25%.

Maybe we will find out.

A friend repaired his armor with minor blemishes. It was about 20% gone but he used a 99.8% repair tool. The thing is his character is Zabrak and he has no artisan skills what so ever.

My Armorsmith, Master artisan chracter has not had a minor blemish on armor as long as I can remember using 97% and above tools.

Question: Do Master Armorsmiths get mods to increase the chance of repairing armor or not? Is it just based on the Armor Repair Tool Quality, or what?

Armorsmiths (and artisans) DO NOT get any special bonus for armor repair. If you look at your skill points in the list next to the skill tree, you will see that you ahve the same armor repair modifier as any other class.

There ARE armor repair tapes which do increase that number; but the reports from other threads are that they don't seem to help (even though they do raise the number in your skills modifier list). Assuming the Armor Repair tapes work like Armor Exp tapes (which do work), you would need to get +10 to realize any repair benifit from the increased skill (I currently have +10).

There are also REPAIR tapes that don't specificy what they repair. Another thread here reported that those tapes are for Artisan Repair (i.e. they have no effect on armor, and are presently usefull for artisian items as well).

As for when to repair.... I've been recommending at 25-30% of max durabilitiy. You DO get better results at 50% than at 30%, BUT every time you do the repair you risk destroying the item. The question is do you want to expose the item to a low risk frequently, or a greater risk less often? For me the greater risk once is prefered because at least I GAURANTY that the customer will get 70-75% utility out of the item (worst case), and at 25% durability I still am sucessfull far more often than in the 1-20% durability range. If I repaired at 50%, I'd run the risk of destroying the item the very first time it got down to 50% thereby giving the customer minimal utility out of their armor.

I've repaired hundreds of pieces of armor and always had an 80-90% success rate. I have +12 armor repair from tapes and I use 99.8% tools. Why would Armor Repair be anything like Armor Experimentation? Experimentation points work differently from every other mod in the game, why would it be similar to experimentation when it would make sense that it's more like *every other mod out there*. Wound Treatment. Pistol Speed. Carbine Accuracy. Terrain Negotiation. You don't need multiples of 10 to see increases in those, why would you need it for armor repair? Even before I got the tapes I had a much higher success rate than my guildmates (non Armorsmiths). I think we do get a bonus, it's just hidden, like a smuggler's slicing ability. They get no slicing skill mod listed but it's obviously there.

Also with what people are selling these tapes for, 1 million+ credits, why in the heck would I buy one to repair someone elses armor?

I am pretty sure it is just random as of right now. I have gotten failures/successes with both good and bad tools, near a crafting station and in the middle of nowhere, as a Tech I armorsmith, and as a Master. I haven't ever tried a skill tape, but I would guess those are not being taken into account either.

SImply put, I am pretty sure the DEVs know that nothing is being taken into account statwise for repair, and are just laughing as we try to hypothesize as to what works and what doesn't, cause they know it isall random anyway. I understand these threads can bring it to their attention, but really, after 1 year, fixing it seems like it should be their job, not ours? They have the code in front of them, so they should be able to tell easier than us whatworks and what doesn't. So frustrating....cause if they just came out and said what was broken, we could play and would take that info into account and work with it. As it is, we have to make all these guesses and assumptions. Sorry to bring this rant here....sorry.

I seem to get about the results that speardancer is getting. I stand near my armor driod or personal crafting station, but of course I have proof that it actually helps.
