Im a master Armorsmith and have been since August of 2003. It was a complicated profession but sorta fun.

However, I logged back on since a6 month haitus and HOLY CRAP...things went from complicated to downright ridicolous.

The resources?? Yeah, you can tell this game became Jedi tailored. Why? Because everyone wants energy protection so they can attack Jedi. The DEVs altered the levels and armor so that (in theory Armorsmiths can make other types of armor other than composite)...well...that hasnt exactly worked out. Everyone wants either composite or faction based armor.

So now Im out in space grinding 4/4/4/4 so that I can go to deep space and get faction points easier so that I can buy the schematics for the armor everyone wants. Expensive? Naw...its either everyone is friggin richer than bill gates or poorer than Charley Chaplain's Hobo.

So I go and design armor for high energy stats....easy right? nope.... All the resources needed to build armor core segments for High Energy resists is all monopolized by merchants who sells them for anywhere from 25 million to 95 million per 5 thousand resources. 5 THOUSAND! thats for virtually every resource needed for anti-energy.

No one wants kinetic protection anymore....screw all the other protections...anyone who wants armor want armor to fight the half million Jedi we have hanging out in the starports....and do NOT get me started with the millions of credits you need for Armor experimentation CA you need to get because everyone's idea for NORMAL armor is now 7K resists stats. Good lord.

What in the world happened to the Armorsmith class in the last half year? It went from hard working but fun and a money maker to Insanely Hard working with spending ungodly amounts of money to buy the steel, gems, ore, etc. (I spent 11 million in resources last night ..including the resources I already have and then I though **edit**...)

What happened? What went wrong? What the heck happened to the economy?!?! The economy for armor is so much worse today than it was in the 2003-2004 Duped crises.

BTW, Im on Chilstra

Lol, I agree with you completely man, so will many of the people in this forum. Only thing I can recommend, is get all the resource deeds you can now, before they cost more than the dang adk's.

People still want kinetic, but not for pvp.Primus is also very popular. It is actually not too smart to wear full energy in normal pvp sinc emany weapons deal kinetic. That leaves full energy for jedi hunting only.

As far as resources go, we all have had to deal with the new nameds introduced since the CU. Wait for spawns and harvest, use kits if you want, or negotiate with the people that have them. I dont really see a big deal there as pre CU the best resources were just as expensive as the new ones are now...

Expensive I dont mind

Armorsmith is no longer a profession in a game. Post CU its literally turned into a job that is more frustration than my real life job...and I still fork over the 14.99 lol

I used to sell Armor cheap. If I bought these resources or bought the free crates from people, then I am forced to sell a suit of armor for half a million credits. Seeing only 400 particular aluminum resources on the entire server and it being 80 million credits is just messed up.

Crafting should be unique and challenging but c'mon....who smoked the pot when they came up with the armorsmith revamp?

But alas...I put all the millions of credits of resources on my vendor, bought a very sexy pair of hotpants and /respec myself to master dancer/musician.

Becoming an Armorsmith should not be has difficult as RL strategic resource outsourcing and hermeneutical analyzing all subsets of specific types of resources...if I wanted to do that I would get a job in real life that was similiar. It wasn't this bad pre CU. Remember...its not the money. I logged on with 55 million credits....its everything else involved with it.

I mean the question is for the newly inspired Master Armorsmith or the unseasoned Armorsmith: Is it truly worth it? I mean...seriously..is it?? Remember...we are paying to do this lol.

really? I sell almost all battle armor, I only make assault cores for my BH armor. I have made a total of 7 suits of composite since the CU. (NOTE: I am a custom AS only, so I do only about 4-10 suits a week)

Oh, enigma, experimentation is not what you remember bud. Capped armor is all about resources. any extra exp points past 10 are for condition only. And just do what I do bud, don't waste your stress level on hitting 7k, get the good stuff that will let you hit 6800. It will sell just as well as 7k, the capped stuff is for people trying to ADK BH, RIS or factional armor, and that trend is going to die now that ADK's are 18-20 mill a piece.

I used to hate the post CU AS, but after working with it I have finally found something I like to do. No longer is it a boring "I need to make comp" chore. You can now be a real crafter. The days of mass running comp so you can make millions without any sweat are over it is true. But if you are truly a person stung by the crafters bug you will start to love it. I now spend 98% of my time on my AS. I am even toying with the notion of turning my Bothan into an architect/tailor then making my fish into an AS/WS, I am noe that addicted to crafting. Of course that also comes from the fact that we are now in need. No more of the days of 200 AS per square mile. And as for Architect...well try finding one nowadays. Even if you do they will tell you to check their vendor. No one does customs anymore. It is a wide open market out there for someone willing to do the work.

The change in the money you make BTW is because of having to charge that 400-500k pricetag. Money post-CU is actually easier to come by for some reason. I have noobs come to me for my 80k noob armor suits one day then 2 weeks later come back for my best stuff. What used to mean 3 days of work and 4-5 factories can be done now with 2-3 factories and 2 days. It is all about if you have the ability to hand craft what used to be the job of a factory manager.

I have to agree with the original poster, AS is somewhat trickier than pre-CU.

However, you do not see many full suits of Comp out there - at least most people have their own look now.

I don't tend to craft armor to sell these days, mainly make itjust for my alt character and my brother's toons. More of a money saver than a moneyspinner.

The biggest annoyance for me? It has to be that you STILL CANNOT craft an entire suit of armorwithout a bloomin' factory run (Why is this???? That a Master Armorsmith cannot handmake a chest plate makes no sense at all to me) - makes enchanced armor very time consuming to make.

AS takes a lot of time. A lot lot of time. Partly because there are few reliable suppliers out there for resources and hides. I pretty much have to do all that myself these days. I have tried to groom some guildmates into suppliers but it seems money is so easy to come by there is no hunger to learn a trade. My adventure character hardly gets any play - except for his deeds lol.

It's different. Worth it? Hard to say. I do love the feeling when I get tons of a good resource for myself...that won't keep me playing forever though, heh.

Regards.

AS today is all about resources

  • you don't need 12exp points, stats only dependant on resources

  • even on most expensive servers, resource kits can get you resources for 200-300cpu (1m-2m per 5k)

  • you get full faction points from killing lvl 25 faction npcs (can get 100k+ afk, I am against it, but part of the game now)

  • RIS, BH and recon all sell very very well

economy is great, just different

I don't mind the factory runs for layers, segments & cores. I usually keep a minimum of 100 of each of my adv cores. However, all of my work is currently hand crafting. I'd prefer to be able to run off general runs of suits though, otherwise I am inundated with tells from previous customers for new suits of armor. Armor decays far too fast right now, and with the factory color bug, this makes it near impossible to seriously keep up with demand.

I would like to be able to run off full suits, so that I can take care of the grinders, and hand craft custom suits for peeps that can afford the extra cost. One of the things that would definately be nice for SOE to add, would be an armor suit bag. Something that would list stats for the suit inside. This way people would be able to look in one spot on the vendor search.

It'd also be nice if they brought back multiple experimentation lines.

I think you are exaggerating just a bit on the cost of resources on chilly mate. I mean, I know its bad but I dont think its gotten that far yet.

Yes the resource requirements are ungodly, but most of the resources seem to be spawning frequent enough(with exception of plexite) and I think almost all of the smiths on chilly are hurting for that.

Do primus cores as well, they sell very nicely on chilly. I will sell between 10 to 20 sets a week of primus layered. As far as being worth it, if I had to do it for the fun meter its a 2, but what I do it for now is just to hoard the credits. Im kind of curious on how much I can make before I quit when DDO hits.

As far as kinetic armors not selling, you are correct, but thats due to the fact we have 10 bh to every 1 jedi and they are all he11 bent on killing off the jedi.
