Thread: Public crafting stations
Don't worry about sounding like a newb, everyone is at one point and that's the whole point of the forums.
As for your question...you get to this screen after you choose what metals/minerals/chemicals,etc. you will use to craft the item. The screen will ask whether you want to create a prototype, schematic, or experiment.
You might have to be more experienced in engineering but I'm not sure...I didn't even try to use the public crafting stations before I got to engineering III
Hope this helps.
Second, I think you need engineering I or II before you can 'experiment' at a crafting station.
To use a crafting station (public, private, or droid) you simply have to be near it (not sure on exact distance required), and using a like-named specialized crafting tool (not the generic).
To get the experimentation option, you simply need skill in experimentation, which is granted to a few races, as well as artisans and medics and others who create items.
Benefits of various crafting tools and stations:
Generic Crafting tool: can make ANY type of item of complexity 15 or less. Gains no benefit from crafting stations, and thus cannot experiment
Specialized crafting tool: can only make the type of items its name refers to. Can make up to 20 complexity items when used in the field, 25 when used at a public crafting station, and can make items of complexity greater than 25 if used at a private crafting station.
Crafting stations: Raise the complexity of items you can make (if using a like-named specialized crafting tool), and gives you access to experimentation options. Private crafting stations give you the ability to make higher complexity items, but nothing more than public stations otherwise.
The experimentation option pops up if you are at a crafting station of the proper type using the proper tool, just after you click the Assemble button... you are given 3 options, Create Prototype (the only one you can do AWAY from a crafting station), create schematic (for use in factories), and Experiment... you want the 3rd.
it's fairly simple. You stand near them but use your own crafting tool. any but generic. Use your armor and clothes crafting tool near an armor and clothes public crafting station. etc.
If you do this then there will be extra steps in the crafting process allowing you to experiment to boost the stats of your item. Which is very important for people looking for only high quality items.
Happy crafting
You actually use a Crafting station by being close to it and then using the appropriate Crafting tool. The tool will "connect" to the Crafting station. In your Datapad, whatever item you are attempting to craft should tell you whether or not you need to use a crafting station.
Hope this helps ![]()
Normally when crafting, after it tells you how successful the crafting was it skips to naming the item and then producing a prototype. If you are near the Crafting station that corresponds to the Crafting device you are using then after it tells you how successful the crafting was you get a new window with three options:
Build Prototype, Build Manufacturing Schematic, Experiment.
With Experiment you can extent the aspects like Experimental Durability or Experimental Quality beyond the normal. A manufacturing schematic is used by factories to mass produce an item.
how do i use them?
when i click on them the only option that comes up for me is examine... i can't do anything else on them
