Thread: Heavy Mineral Harvester What definitively does it harvest?

I've been harvesting for months and months and I've noticed that Mineral Harvesters can harvest not only minerals, but also radioactive and chemical. I'm considering purchasing some Deep Crust Chemical Extractors, but if Heavy Minerals harvest the same thing, then what's the point?

Can someone point me to exactly what the different types of harvesters harvest, and what they do not?

Thanks in advance!

Unless it's the solid petrochemicals (?), mineral extractors do not mine chemicals.

You'll need a Deep Crust (or other) Chemical extractor.

Ah. Solid Petrochemicals are Minerals, not Chemicals. Well, that's not quite obvious...

Yes and radioactives are classified as minerals too.

SWGcraft has the resource tree here:

Minerals include: gemstone, low grade ore, metal, radioactive and solid petrochemical fuel.

If you're after rads though, you're far better off going with a high BER Fusion plant.

There is need to "test" anything. If you look at the resource trees on someplace like swgcraft or look in your survey tool it is very clear.

(Of course, the inane names for some of the harvesters don't help much. )

mineral tool - ONLY shows "minerals" - EVERYTHING that shows in that tool is minable with a mineral harvester - and it is in NOT shown in the tool, then it can't be mined by a mineral harvester.

If you open the harvester and go to choose resources for it to bring up, it will ONLY show you things classified as "minerals" - period.

The same logic applies to gas, chemical, flora, and water.

Wind survey tool => wind generator

Solar survey tool => solar generator

Then the "oddball" - radioactive power. You see it in the mineral tool. You *CAN* mine it up with a mineral harvester. However, the economics are such that you can mine radioactive power *MUCH* cheaper by using a fusion generator.

I know that they will show you what resources are available at that location and at what concentration, however, don't think you can mine anything other than minerals with it.

I'll verify this one way or the other (unless someone beats me to it) when I get home from work in afew hours.

It's really fairly simple... A harvester will harvest any resources that appear in the deisplay of a survey tool of the same name.

Mineral Harvester -- Anything listed when you look at a mineral tool
Chemical Extractor -- Anything on Chem tool
Water Vaporator -- Anything on a Water survey tool

etc. etc.

And there is no overlapping between what one or the other can harvest or is displayed in the survey tools.

The only exception to this rule is the Fusion Generator which can only harvest spawning radioactive material that are listed in the Mineral Survey tool.
