Thread: Question Regarding Schematics/factories

A long time ago I mastered artisan and architect. I did it using personal harvesters and grinding out all my components by hand, or buying them already in factory crates. I only touched on using schematics in conjunction with factories. So, my newbish question is this:

Once I make a schematic using the bast quality resources I have, paired with experimentation, how strictly am I made to adhere to what goes into the hopper? If I change one of my ingredients on a subsequent run, will and how badly will it affect my final product? Also, how do YOU keep track of exactly which resources you are using for a particular schematic?

I ask this because I am likely to be pulled back into a crafting profession one of these days, and this time I will be able to afford my own factories. I assume you would use a notebook to jot down all your notes, and maybe put the relevant resources into a container along with the schematic. Maybe use a pack so you can change the name to reflect that Schematic: Stim-B.

I never took those professions as far as they could go, mainly for lack of knowledge and funds. I have learned a few things along the way from master crafters i was guilded with when I was strictly a combat template. Now, when I feel the urge building (no pun intended, and for the record, I hated tradeskilling in EQ so I am amazed I kind of like it in SWG) I know I want to not only succeed but be known for having the best products that can be made, no matter what I decide to market.

Thanks in advance for any advice, I guess I should cross-post this on the Artisan forums too.

For resources used in a schematic, you have to have the exact same resource every time you use the schematic. The schematic will call out the resource by name and you have to have that named resource or it will not work.

Example: If you make a schematic for an Ore mining unit and use some Nasiaf duralloy steel and some Quadasifm inert gas then you'll have to have Nasiaf steel and Quadasifm gas for every part you make using that schematic. If you don't have enough of those specific named materials then your schematic will end up useless.

Some sub-components for some schematics can be used without having identical parts. In those instances you can use any sub-component and it won't mater. If the schematic requires a specific sub-component then it will call it out by the serial number of the part. If any sub-component will due then it won't ask for a specific serial number.

Example: When making Heavy Mineral harvester the schematic calls for 'identical' ore mining units and only 'similar' wall components. So when you make a factory schematic for heavy minerals using a OMU with serial # (3d14xyz) you must use the exact same ore mining units with the (3d14xyz) serial number produced off the exact same schematic every time you want to make a mineral deed. The mineral harvesters schematic will call for that specific serial number when you look at it in your data pad. However since the wall components don't require identical parts you can use any wall made with any materials either by hand or in factory runs or any combination of walls from any source. The schematic for the mineral won't say anything except for 'Walls' and no serial number is specified.
