Do you believe Architects should be able to build most structures relevant to players in the game? Here's the first step. With JTL out, it only makes sense (It would take awhile, but why not Spring 05?)
I have a proposal open on the Political board that looks to allow a Megapolis Class city. There would be one per habitable planet, it would need to be a minimum size to qualify (.e.g 150+)
I ask you to read it and share your support!
May the Force be with you!

I agree that starports should be availble to the really BIG BIG Player Cities however they should and proberly would take up massive amounts of resources such as 100 wall modules 20 indentical power core units not impossable by any means to build buta right pain of any architect.
I also agree one per planet however maintenace costs for the structure should be very high too making sure that only really big cities employing the right tax settings for such a structure are the only places the starports could exist.

Somehow i like that idea, but as already said; it should be hard as hell to get one and only like max 3-4 pr. planet, or else SP´s will pop all over

I remember when they were considering the Urban Planner "elite elite" profession awhile back and this came up.
Ultimately the resources don't matter - it could be a million wall modules and the fact is - a large city with large guilds will get it done - cost considerations aren't really that much of a concern.
If it does happen, I'm sure there will be a cap - and I'm sure it won't be 1
too many howls of complaint - it can be, as per the original suggestion, for cities over xxx number of people and make the requirements so that practically only 1 can be placed but to hard cap it at 1 would be unfair.
I think if this happens, we'll see a lot of the smaller cities disappear as they'll probably want to join one with a starport - and reducing the number of cities is probably a good thing. However, it would also mean the virtual abandonment of the existing permanent cities. Mind you, with little content in these cities as it is I wouldn't care - but SOE might :>
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers

I'm against player city starports. Starports are one of the few things which keep people going to NPC cities and allow for a good chunk of server commerce to be located in several major hubs.
Also, I see it kinda like airports. Larger cities have the huge airline hubs (Dallas/Fort Worth, JFK, LAX, etc) and smaller cities have regional airports (like my hometown, Des Moines) which have very few international flights, but more regional flights to larger flight hubs. Shuttleports serve as regional flight hubs, whereas starports serve as major flight hubs.

Here's an idea. How about architects being able to make one use landing pads to launch starships. Couldn't be crated and you can only carry one. So even if an architect can mass produce these. He can still only carry one...so a very tedious back and forth between the vendor and the factory.

Or how about a courier service building. You know how in the bazaar, if you buy something far away, you have to travel to that location to retrieve it. How about a city structure that sets up a time limited bazaar. So you set up a "to address" and a "from address" for the buyer and seller. The item in the courier system only lasts say a few hours. This will keep the system from being used as extra storage. As long as a player city or an NPC city has one of these structures, you can send for some fee your package. It wouldn't be instant though and it would cost more than travelling to that planet if you bought it on the bazaar. But you wouldn't be capped at 6000 credits. Just like you bring up the terminal map at a shuttleport or starport, it would bring up a similar map for courier service buildings. A negative of this would that you could neatly foil the contraband checks in the NPC cities which the devs may not like. We could limit the courier service users to smugglers and merchants or some sort of system like that.
I suggest this, because as far as I know, most courier services at least on Kettemoor, failed to get off the ground. It's very hard to establish trust on something like that.

I think Cherokaa has a good point. The star ports are the only things that make people visit NPC cities, along with the ID tents. If it wasn't for those, Coronet would be as empty as the other cities on Corellia whose names I won't try to spell correctly.

I think having just one of these per planet would be a very nice incentive for teh larger player cities .. and by no means would it distract from NPC cities (as people travel to all types of starports as is.)
My concern as always is who gets it? Qualifications met by more then 1 city and who gets it? the way updates are so messed up on each server ... it would seem like a random lotto on who got the starport. It should go by first city and so on .... whoever mets the qualifications and has been a city longest.
Ummm and yah archies shoudl be able to make em and it shoudl be some insane amt of resources.
