Thread: An End to Architects? Can it Last?

Right now architecture is a pretty hot occupation due to the demand for housing/harvesters/factories by new players. At the moment I am slowed down more by availability of low grade ore than demand. However over time presumably the market will decline as people fill up their slots. I have a few partners collecting ore for me but maintenance costs are not low and cash flow is at a premium.

There will be upgrades of course, but do you guys see a real slow down in the long term? I mean beta is all fine, but was still very short lived so have we really seen what happens over the long term? ie 3-6months

Here are my assumptions. Please let me know if I am wrong.

1) Buildings do not decay if maintenance is paid
2) Buildings that architects make cannot be destroyed in PvP wars

I am just wondering what will continue to drive this profession in the long run, or is it mostly a lot of people wanting to get their PA/Factory/House and move one?

I for one would like to continue with this profession as it holds some interest for me but only if it is viable enough I can pay my maintenance daily.

This is exactly why I reconsidered my desire to become an architect. There may be some demand for furniture as people want to redecorate and some of that moving up to a bigger house thing. But otherwise, it'll be pretty slow in 6 months.

I suggest you start lobbying right now for the devs to add new houses, furniture, hunting blinds, etc. every so often to keep demand cysling through. Maybe an architectural version of image designing that allows you to repaint houses to different colors.

One saving grace may be player cities. They could design them so that the city has to hire an architect to build the public buildings like starports.

I would like to see architectural consumables. In particular buildings and structures that can blow stuff up, or be blown up. As they say war is good for business and a constant demand for defensive stuctures could keep me and every other architect very busy filling those orders.

However a peace time market with no building decay is going to get flat.

Of course there is also the problem of urban sprawl. Some parts of Naboo are starting to look practically Dickensian. I half expect little street urchins to be playing amoungst the personal harvesters begging for small change.

I think there will always be some sort of a demand on buildings, since more and more people are going to start playing the game. Right now we have all the power gamers, but eventually we are going to start getting a sterady flow of people who just start out.
