I am a 0 0 2 2 architect, i have just got installations 2 and i attempted to make a medium mineral harvester last night.
I used good quality materials with a good unit toughness etc but only managed to experiment it up to BXR 5.
I was using a +29 efficiency crafting station and a decent enough crafting tool. However when i came to experimenting, to move the slider up just one point took it 29% chance of failure.
My question is this, are my efforts being hampered because i dont have Furniture or Construction?

In a word, Yes! I did pretty much the same as you are starting to do on my way up the Architect tree. I needed the installations to provide the material to build the houses I wanted to and wasn't concerned about furniture. About halfway up I looked a little more closely at the skill mods added in other branches and decided to change my plans. Take a look at your skills and you'll see that for each level of construction you get a significant increase in experimentation and for each level of furniture the skill mod is an increasing addition to structure assembly. So having a few extra couches around may not be a bad idea after all. The most recent patch has allowed Masters the full 10 points of experimentation (and it's about &*%#@* time) so you'll want to decrease the risk of crits during experimentaion. Structure assembly (from furniture) goes hand in hand with experimentation (from construction) to help do this ... Hope that helps :-)
