Thread: Experimentation on Factories and Harvesters

OK. Is there a guide for idiots on this. I have tried making several factories and get three things that I can experiment on. The top two start at 0%, so even if you put all your points in there it will never rise above 0% because anything times 0 = 0. The third area, storage, is the only thing I can experiment on. I'm having similar issues on the harvesters. Where is an Idiot's Guide. I know it has to do with what resources I use, but I've tried putting near perfect overal quality into each component with no luck. What do I do please?

Using perfect overall quality isn't what you need to be using. You need different stats for different parts. A light ore mining unit has 25% heat, 25% ?, and 50% Unit Toughness. Overall quality doesn't have anything to do with it. You just need to pay attention to what stats are important, and it'll all workout a lot better for you. Overall quality isn't the end all of the stats.

How do I know what stat is important for what part?

Your schematic tells you. When you open your crafting tool and select the item (e.g. Light Ore Mining Unit) then it tells you what material (steel, ore, etc) you need and what quantities. If you scroll down in that display it will say something like "Extraction Rate" followed by something like this:

25% Heat Resistance
25% Shock Resistance
50% Unit Toughness

That tells you what resource attributes are important to getting good scores for extraction and their relative importance (in this example, UT is 2X as important as each of the other two.)

So if you have two steels that you could use, you pick the one that will give higher overall marks, given this information. That one will give you the best chance to get a high extraction rate.

OK, I've tried this now and still am getting 0% on the first two when making Structure Factories. These are the main two I want to affect and I can't. Shows 33% Maleability and 66% Unit Toughness. Just how good do these have to be to make it so I can experiment. AND do the walls, power supply, etc have to have been great successes too?

First two stats on all factories have NO experimentation, sorry. When a component or deed has no properties to modify by experimentation, it either shows up as zero, blank, or no stat in the examine window.

I could be wrong here, but I dont believe that any experimentation on factories actually has any effect on the product. From what I have seen, the input and output hoppers are still at 100.

Geez. So I've been racking my brain for nothing. There is no way to make them produce quicker or anything like that. Also, has anyone else noticed that their factories do not notify them by mail when they have completed any more. Mine used to but I havn't got a message since the patch and I'm running 4 factories.

Just like harvestors used to be, experimentation on factories still have no affect. That may change in a later patch, but look how long it took them to change the harvestors.

also I do still get e-mail notices on when my structures factory completes a run

If you craft high quality walls, does that have any bearing on how good your harvester will be? or is it just the ore mining unit and final combine that will affect the final outcome?

On the Equipment Factory quality resources and experimenting on the components does help. I have been able to get the storage to just over 1000 units.

did that work on the input hopper as well?
