If a large house takes 6 lots, hold 250 items, and cost 1260/day to run, then why not use 3 small houses that also take up 6 lots but hold 450 items, and cost 1052/ day to run?
Perhaps I am missing something?

Some people just like big spaces to live in, personally I live in a guild hall, and have my shop there.

Ya its for the folks that want to decorate a large house and have lots of room. Its not at all the best option storage wise.

Actually if you are just concerned about Lots and Items allowed, then your very best option would be Factories. 1 Lot plus 100 Storage and maintenance is very little.

Or for those people that don't need their lots for things like factories or harvesters, and just want a big home.

Non-crafters prefers Large houses. They don't need that many items and lots not in use.
Personally I live in 3 Medium & 2 Smalls.

Or, better yet, use 6 factories to hold 600 items on those same 6 lots
Of course it will cost you like you wouldn't believe...

I was thinking the same. You would think there would be some type of benefit to upgrade to a bigger/better house, like there is a benefit to upgrading your harvestors.
If large houses used up only 2 lots (like all the other houses), I would upgrade my medium in a second. Would be nice to decorate more than 1 room in my medium house too.
Would having items classified as "Furniture" not count against your item total be cool?
