Thread: Architect Sub-component pricing?

Hey all,

First post here. I made Master Architect a few weeks ago. Anyway, my question is this: what would you charge for 4-10 power core units from a factory crate? I had a guy request I make these for him today and the price he quoted seemed WAY too low to me, but the price I quoted him was apparently WAY to high. Just trying to get a feel for whether I was trying to rip him off or vice versa.

I know prices are subject to the server economy, etc ... but could you please throw out some ballpark figures for what you would charge someone for this order?

Thanks in advance for any replies ... really appreciate the input!

I don't sell them and I've only had one guy ever ask me.

AFAIK, these are only used for two things:

- architects to make large structures (e.g., large houses, PA Halls, etc)

- droid engineers to make power droids

The power droids are pretty worthless and the DE can't usually get a high price for them.

These take about 2500 units of resources and *four* factory runs. They require generator turbines (from an architect) and two components from a Master Artisan. So to make them you either have to be a Master Artisan and make two factory runs or you have to find a Master Artisan and buy some crates from them, at their markup.

I don't think I'd bother with selling them below 15K.

Since this is a question about pricing advice for architect components I think it is on topic for our forum.

I would charge based on time involved more than anything. Making some crates of power cores would take a while. As Zen mentioned theres 4 factory runs involved. To make 10 of them you'd be looking at around 1-1.5 hours factory time total. They are a slight pain to make considering. On the other hand theyonly require grind material and no experimentation.

If you think your price is fair then that is good enough.

If the customer wants to pay less than your price then they are free to shop around. Some customers just always like to haggle to try and get a bargain. Some customers conveniently always know a friend of their girlfriends cousin who bought them from a guy who's name they conveniently forgot who sold them the same itemfor 1/2 of whatever price we justquoted them.

Almost forgot...

Standard disclaimer: The economy varies a lot from server to server.

If they offered 1k then they were either seriously lowballing or they just didn't realize how much materials our subcomponents use. If they were a DE then they might just be used to subparts taking a couple hundred units of resources. As architects we take it for granted that we're dealing in big numbers. Thats something the rest of the world sometimes just doesn't realize.

I simply pick a price per CPU then add 20% for overhead of running factories and profit margin.

Since i get my materials for approx 2 or 3 cpu i calculate it off that then add 20%

Thanks alot guys ... this particular individual thought these components were worth about 1k a piece!

Again, appreciate the input!

I have had my share of comparable customers, and my simple reply to them is: Well. Go get it somewhere else then. More often than not they will eventually come back to me in a few days (ranging from 1 to ....) with the comment that said person no longer is an architect/quit the game/is on vacation/divorced their mom/insert any excuse here.

To get to the topic of the post though: The thing is not only server economy, the thing is also that certain architect subcomponents are a b*tch to make. I have power core units in stock (quite a lot), as wel as turbine generators, but since they take a long time to make (or in the case of turbines, a lot of resources to make), I generally simply won't sell them.

The factory runs really don't matter that much to me, since I do them anyway to build up my stockpile. If I would have to make a special run just to sell 6 power core units, I simply would not do that. Tough luck for them, but no go. If I have enough stock, I can consider selling some.

My prices are lowish I've noticed, and for a generator I ask 7500, for a power core unit 12.5K. But as I said: Only when I have them in stock, and only when I have *enough* stock. I'm not going to make them for someone. (Unless they provide me with all the resources
