Walls always seem to be in demand, so I'm thinking of going into the Wall Business on my Server.

Anyone else try this? I Have around 30 Lots (via friends etc.) so I'm thinking I can have around 22-23 dedicated to mining the ore/Steel, and 4-5 dedicated to the factories.

Seems the going price is around $6k - $9k per wall?

Any one else try this? Is this a viable business or a waste of time do you think?

Not many architects will pay 9k per wall.

You need 5 walls for a medium house. That makes 45k only for the walls. The house doesnt go for more than 50k . Probably for less. A wall wil need 3k resources. I wouldnt pay more than 4500 (that is 1,5cpu) for a wall.

I'd certainly buy walls myself. I'd buy for 9k on my server. And with ore hard to find on the open market I think 6-9k is very reasonable. So if anything I think the prices would be going up. Bear in mind your market is the people who mainly buy materials rather than do their own mining. Somoene like me.

When I apprenticed to Mordon in Oct 2003,I made and ground through most of Architect by making and selling walls. Most people, today, want to sell walls for 10k. I sold and have a standing order to buy any walls for 7K a piece. Past 7K and there's no reason for a viable return to cost, IMO. That's 2 and 1/3 cpu per wall. I find this number reasonable for a component.

The one time I sold walls, right after the Player City boom, I sold over 12,000 walls at 7K. There was a lot of crying when I wanted to do another profession and pull back from massive ore collection on Tempest.

One the FS grinds are over, I might just go back to doing that. Made good money with walls and far fewer headaches!

I only manufacture Struc Modules and other subcomponents (for the 'identical' part). Every wall is hand crafted with 'love'. Actually, I hand craft almost everything! And I've been told I was the best stocked Arch around Theed on Intrepid. I usually try to keep 2 items of everything. And the most expensive piece of furniture that I sell is 7k (large bed), Aside from paintings, those are 10k, but it's not a 'normal' schematic. And of course the new loot, when I have the time to hunt for it, will be around 10k a pop.

Although I find 9k per wall a bit expensive, I admit that if you price it as you would price a resource, it's even cheaper than the regular 2cpu.

But I'm a scrooge with my credits. I only spend some in the most dire of needs. (So why did I buy an AV-21 for 2.6 mil? )

Hand crafted Walls take HEAPS of storage capacity.

And its a hazzle to drop 20 single walls into one city hall.

Since the original poster said they were planning to have "4-5 [lots] dedicated to the factories." I think its a safe assumption that the walls are going to be factory made.

Yes it is a hassle to drop 20 for a hall... But I only craft them when I need them, I don'tmake 100 walls and keep them somewhere. But it gives me XP for FS conversion I should have enough FS XP for Xmas 2007...
