Thread: What's the difference between Similar components and identical?
- Similar components you can make yourself... they are the same item, but they have different serial numbers.
- Identical components MUST be made in a factory. That's all factories are designed for unless you don't mind missing out on 90% of your XP (i.e. if you're already a Master and just want to automate your crafting).
Completely ingore the word similar. It means nothing. They should remove it since it throws people off.
More precisely, identical mean items made with the exact same schematic.
Two generators made from different schematics will not be identical, and will not work in a recipe calling for Identical generators.
One thing I have noticed is that when making wall sections, the recipe does not actually require that the structure modules be identical. Means you can easily use a wall section schematic with 10 different structure module runs (1000 structure modules can produce 100 wall modules).
Good luck,

If they ever get the functionality of the "optional" components in crafting stations working, using an input hopper, could that possibly be a way to craft 2 or 3 identical components without the use of a factory? Just a random thought..
