Thread: Architects and Droid Engineers...PLEASE READ

Hello, I'm a Droid engineer. You may have noticed that our profession is badly neglected (in fact at the time of this posting, we cannot even craft droids due to a bug...) How does this affect Architects you ask? Read on...

Droids can act as mobile personal structure crafting stations. They can hold draft schematics, and I can't imagine Binary load lifters not being essential to you guys after they are given a function. Droids hold alot of potential, if developed right, to be invaluable to your profession. If you can think of an improvement to droids that would be usefull to you, please post it here...

Anyone who's ever seen Star Wars knows what an important role Droids have. They add to the "Star Warsy" atmosphere, and with proper DEV support, they could be an essential tool for ALL classes. These ongoing problemsare leading to less and less droids in Galaxies. Please, if you want to see droids take a more active role in Galaxies, as they do in the Star Wars movies, post a reply to show support for a badly wounded profession...we all work together, we can make this game feel more like the Star Wars we all know!

I don't mean to sound heartless, but we've got our own problems. Architects are the root of every crafting profession, and we're getting crunched with the harvester problems going on. So I think your attempts at recruiting support from us is going to be disapointing at best. However, I do feel for you. But didn't the devs already promise some love to DEs? I've been out of the droid-loop for a while.

What I'm suggesting will help us both...imagine droids that could do your harvester maintenece for you...imagine telling them to patrol between your harvesters, doing repairs, paying maintentence, collecting resources, and returning to you with everything done and collected.

Remeber, droids in the RL Star Wars universe, function soley to make life easier on thier masters. Droids in the game should do the same thing.

Lemme ask this...if you had a say, what would you make droids do to make life as an architect easier?

I've been a full supporter for the DE. The lack of attention they have gotten has been pathetic. I love my architecture, but compared to the DEs, we've got it made in the sun.

Shale,

Although I would LOVE to use droids to maintain my harvesters it's not going to happen very soone. Holocron has stated that there are serious technical issues to implement this. It's based on the fact that not all structures are "loaded" at all times. Harvesters are only "loaded" when someone who can access them are within a certain radius.

I concur with the sentiments expressed by Odyseusa. Specially since this is supposed to be Star Wars, it is riduculous the lack of forsight given the DE profession.

Actually Xader, that was discussed in the DE forum. The solution is that these droids act like BH droids. They go "disappear" have a countdown time of 1 minute and then automatically "charge" the harvester with X amount of credits. After all, the DBase already knows where the harvester is and all the appropriate info, so it would not be necessary for the droid to actually "fly" (or drive) all the way there, it just needs to simulate the fact that it flies there.

In fact, they could even be charge use just like BH droids.

Thanks ArchAngel,

I didn't know that. That is truely good news that there is a feasible way to do it. I have always thought that using droids in such a way only added to the "star-warsy-ness" of the game.

As a programmer, I would love to know more about these "technical difficulties" with making a datapad showing harvester status. From what I have read, when you walk up to a harvester, a routine runs to calculate remaining maint / power and amount harvested. So when you open the new datapad, run that routine for your harvesters. Not sure where the difficulty is in that.

Even if the new datapad doesn't report perfectly accurate information, it would be ok. There could be software bugs in the datapad, I'm sure they exist even in the SW universe. Anything that would get me out of keeping aspreadsheet on my harvesters would be a good thing. And I would LOVE to have more useful droid related stuff. I agree that it is sorely lacking.

I'd love a droid to help me out. Everytime I see a droid engineer, I ask them if they can make anything useful to me and they reply "NO."

It is sad that they spend what appears to be most of the time on Creature Handlers which take away from the "Star Wars Experience" in many if not amajority of the player population's eyes but they ignore a class like the Droid Engineer which is one of the few unique things about the whole "experience".

Hopefully one day the developers will begin to understand that ignoring any class that doesnt relate directly to combat isnt the best way to keep players. It is obvious that their concern lies with combat and those classes that directly affect combat (ie why armorsmiths and weaponsmiths get so much attention and are the only crafter class that has had anything more than a simple quick fix).

Ill play the role of a sucker for a little while more but I imagine that once the next gen of these games comes out people like myself that are interested in more than just blowing stuff up will move on even if it is Star Wars that we are leaving.

Ummm... Anya, there are a lot of creatures in the Star Wars films. Even a cameo by a Creature Handler in ROTJ. SOE didn't come up with Kaadus, Rancors, etc.

That said, their is a lot more creature content thandroid content. Fleshing out the droid side of the universe should be someone's priority.
