Thread: [Q] How to make Heavy Miners

I have gone up thru Architect by making Wall Modules and houses and will be making Heavy Miners starting tomorrow. My questions are these:

  • What goes into the final BER calc?

  • I cannot experiment on Generator Turbines or Small Structure Storage Modules so I am assuming the materials used to create these do not matter and I should use poor materials, is this correct?

  • When making a Wall Module it appears as though the Structural Modules cannot be experimented so am I correct in the assumption that the experimental values of a Wall Module are only determined by the Ore using for the wall and not for the Structural Modules (i.e. Can I use horrible Ore for Structural Modules as long as I use good Ore for the walls)?

  • I read another post saying that once you create a schematic for a Harvester, the only things that need to be identical are the factory parts (i.e. Generator Turbines, Small Struct Storage Modules and Ore Mining Units). From this I gathered that if I have 1000 walls sitting around from various factory runs I could use any of them with a schematic?

I hope this made sense.... I have been a Weaponsmith forever and with the add-on of Architect I am trying to get a feel for what parts I can use crap resources for and which parts the resources actually matter for. Thanks in advance.

There are several threads about making harvesters around. They probably all have little nuggets of information.

Quality ONLY matters on the "mining" component (e.g., ore mining unit, fluidic drilling pump) and on the final assembly. Use crappy resources for *everything* else (walls, generators, storage modules, etc).

Yes, you can make a schematic for a harvester and it will allow *arbitrary* wall modules to be used. All of the other components (e.g., generators, ore mining units) follow the standard rules about coming from the same factory run but walls are walls are walls.

I have to agree with what Zalle said above.

You will want gather up some Steel and Extrusive Ore with 900+ UT,SR, and HR. Some Chemical with no status in UT, SR, or HR. Use these materials only in the final construction and to make: Ore Mining units, Turbo Fluidic Drilling Pump, Heavy Harvesting Mechanism. These are the only parts that will affect the final BER max.

During the Experiment phase on the: Ore Mining units, Turbo Fluidic Drilling Pump, Heavy Harvesting Mechanism, you will need to be able to reach 90%+ on all them in order to be able to hit the BER 13 for all harvesters and the BER 14 on fusions. The only expectation to this in the Mineral harvester which needs to be 86%+, so if you don’t reach that with you schematic try again or if you max out the experimentation and it didn’t reach it, look for better Materials to make the schematic with.

Whatever materials you have on hand can be used to make the other components, as they don’t will not affect the final BER max, even if they are the worst you can possibly get will not matter.

Also in the final experimentation be aware that you may get all the way to a 13BER heavy, and have 1-2 points left to experiment with for storage capacity. When you experiment, if you have a critical failure, you will drop the rate as well as the storage capacity. Whether this is a bug or not has not been explained to us.

So if storage doesn't matter, stop experimenting when yoiu reach BER 13.
