Ok, im new to this harvesting thing (an no its not for a holo) and have a question. I bought and set a heavy harvestor on 76% concentration ofsome good quality steel on tat. But when i checkit it today it tells me the resource is depleted.... Not even 24hours later its gone. My question is, is there any way to tell how fast a resource will dry up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

resources shift about once a week.. you must have put yours down just as they were about to shift out

Nope there is no way to tell how long a resource will stay. The best way making sure you get the best results out of a resource **edit** is to record every day what resources are available and when they first appeared. The best way to do this is to keep a small notebook and every day when your first log in record what’s available and date it. Then when you must switch resources you can simply look at that to see which has been available the least and start finding the best spot. Also if you spend the first 15mins that your on sampling the new resources available your less like to miss the good resources when it does pop up.

The Shortest I seen a resource stay was 3 day and the longest has been 14 days. Also keep in mind resource shifts don't happen just when the servers go down, they can happen at any time.

It is VERY rare but it does happen.. most of the time u can count on at least 5 days.. but.. i have times now got on a resource within an hour of it spawning.. and it has left the next day ... (may be coincidental but also were days there was a hotfix.. or mini patch ..)

Recently a shift happened in less than 24 hrs. New steel , GREAT stats, 950+ in UT/SR/HR. Dropped 3 mediums on it, then went to make some more for my second char to drop on a 63% site. (Best I could find in my area on Naboo).

About 2-3 hours go by. Check the resources, and SHIFT, steel gone, ore gone, etc.

Really blows when you get less than 24 hrs of harvesting. All told I managed to get about 2K worth of this steel. What can I make with only 2K uber steel? mmm..... Need to check schematics!

Well thats why I suggest that you spend about 10mins every log in and just check to see whats available on your planet/server when you log on. It doesn't take very much time to do a quick sample and you never be struck by this quick resource change again, as well as not missing out when the high stat resources pop up.

Yeah, I got hit by that one as well, a great new steel, and only got about 15K out of it before it disappeared. I'm 99% sure it was new as well, I'm not sure what is up with that. SO annoying.

The notebook idea is a really good one, I made a quick spreadsheet that I can just list resources that pop up on a daily basis, ten minutes of time saves you a lot of hassle.

One laborious method for working out which resources are new is touse the town vendors. Of course, this is dictated by sales turnover, but if a resource is available on the vendor and the item has been on sale for 5 or six days, you can be prettysure it's on its way out (just remember to set the search to planet-wide when you browse.

The only other technique I can suggest is gauging harvester numbers. Basically, if you find a great spot in a tight concentration with just a couple of harvesters on it, chances are it's pretty new and word has yet to spread. Alternatively, if you find the same spot and it has 50 harvesters already on it, again you can be pretty sure it's at least a few days old.

Good luck,

Is anyone else really bothered, like me, at how frequently we're getting these shifts though? I had thought that the devs were going lessen the frequency of the shifts, but it sure hasnt happened. At the beginning shifts werent happening at all, now they're just too frequent...cant we find a happy medium? Give us a couple of weeks at least between shifts or something.

I too have been running into the less-than-24-hour resources..and yes, Ive been checking daily. Happened to me on Starsider just yesterday with Ane ore...Found a good spot, threw down my medium and a couple of smalls on Monday evening, and Tuesday, WHAMO! No more Ane and I only got a few thousand units..so they harvesters only pulled ore for 5-6 hours at most...
