Thread: Revelations in Architecture
Well recently I've been debating wheter I should continue to be an architect. I recently became mayor of the city of Kzer-Za on dantooine on the tempest server(random plug) and I've been using my architecture to just built my city spending a lot of my own money. I have recently become poor and have 2 city halls and a few larges that I can't sell.
It seems that I can't make a profit in the current ecomony and I've been giving strong consideration to changing professions. Maybe architecure is not he profession for me or maybe I've lots sight as to what it is to be an architect. It feels that I spend more time complaining than I do having fun in the game.
Really I want to ask everyones opinion. Is architecture fun and/or profitable, or has it become a utilitarian profession that is just required to give people storage space?

Fun AND Profitable for me.
Specialize my friend.
All I do is custom high end (BER 10 med/BER 13 heavy) harvesters and interior design, making fishtanks and stuff.
That's where the money's at ![]()
Find a niche, find a set of customers to sell to, and make sure that they are satisfied.
The houses are waaay too cheap, 10k for a small naboo house, whilearmour sells for like 50k+ a piece I say all architect should raise their prices, since the houses at least lasts alot longer, and should be a long term investment. The whole economy is just whacked. Right now I agree with Dosadi the proffession right now is just utliarian to give the other classes someplace to store their loot that they sell for 400k-1M credits.

The key is to mine your own resources. If you can get another account or use someone else's lots I would do it.
Putting 10 (13 rate) minerals on a 60 to 70% ore spot if worth the minimal cost of maintaining them. Not to mention the 500K to 1 million in ore resources you will put in your bank. An architects best friend is his own mining op, a pa with friends, and his friends lots. ![]()
I have had 6 months of successful architect sales and have made tens of millions of credits. I must admit I did take a break to do holo professions but I have always kept architect.
If you want to have fun with it don't stress about it. If you get burned out a little take a break for a few weeks then get back into it. Good luck!
Well I'm not gonna give away all my trade secrets
but I love being an architect... it was really tough to grind up to master back in the old days and took me something like 4-6 weeks to do it... then it was a hard slog trying to find buyers of the product... but I kept plugging away... I built up a good strong repeat customer business... and when player cities etc came out.. who do you think they called on first for their buildings and new harvesters ?
The most important thing about architecture is not to chase after every single little sale. Someone doesn't want to pay your prices for something, tough, you know what you are worth and how much effort you have put into it and how much you want to make.... keep the vendor stocked with adverts for custom orders and be prepared to give a little discount on the large orders.
But the absolute most important aspect of this profession to make it viable, is to have an EXCELLENT customer service. Once people realise that they are losing 20-30k in resource revenues by waiting that extra day to buy the really cheap harvester because the architect there is swamped... (explain it to them), they will suddenly realise the foolishness of their ways.
I am nowhere near the cheapest on my server (at least I'm pretty sure I'm not
), but I have over 100 repeat customers. Service, service, service.... but don't cheapen yourself.
Hello all,
The architect profession is by far the best profession on the server in my opinion. I make about 1.5mil- 3.0 mil a week, but it takes alot of time and reasourses. The one key that everybody misses is that one must meet the customers needs and add them to friends lists. I try to keep med harvesters in stock as well as small houses, but all large ticket items i make to order. I try to give my customers an acccurate time when thier product will be finished, I normally bump the time a bit so I look better than I am and in case i get into some combat. When you are first starting out have a store in a busy city (ie. bestine, anchorhead, coronet, and theed). I also use the forums to advertise products. Thenext thing I do is dont over charge for my products. Now I know it is hard to find the right prices, but just contact other architects as a customer and try to find out thier prices. The materials for medium harvesters are the same minus some quality steel and ore for final construction, so dont charge 40k-50k for a medium mineral, (which I have seen on many forums) when the same harvs that were made prepatch use the same reasourses. The last thing that i dont do is buy any reasourses, unless it is an emergency and never a large amount. One can harvest reasources at .5 creds per unit as opposed to buying them at 3cpu or more. That is all, sorry about the rant. Long live Architects!!
thanx

I am known. I do get orders (thank gawd). Note my first reply, I am stocked. And very well, by anyone's standard (how many archs have 2 pages of high-end deeds on a Vendor?) Special orders get a 2 day turnaround or less, because I have many parts pre manufactured.
I'm glad your enjoying it. I do as well. But bottom line is the market is fading. It already has on some servers, I expect the rest to follow in 8-12 weeks.
Mintas,
So your're a miner come architect, even thought of dropping the architect bit and saving yourself the work, cost of factories etc. You could sell the resources you mine and make 6 - 12 mill a week before costs I assume you mean ? You must have access to a few more than your allocated lots to have the resources available in the first place.
Also its up to the architect what he charges, its a one time buy thats guarenteed to make the owner very rich for what ever out lay they got it for.
Not every architect has the luxury of mining all the resources they need by themselves, sub resource pricing just restricts the profession. Causing problems with the amount of lots, to place housing etc. Also means that everyone has everything they need in a matter of weeks, leaving us nothing to build. Architects are there own worst enemy in this regard.
On Corbantis, the market is headed down the drain. I read others selling for a good return &have to go pop a xanax
I have been a Arch for a long time, I have 2 toons so I have a luxury in lot spaces, I have a reputation for high end deeds, and GlobalAdvertising. I have 27 13 BERs (135k), 8 14 Fusions (120K), 5 Med Generic Houses (80K) 5 Naboo Mediums (65K), 2 of every factory (35K), various lesser deeds along the same quality & priceline.....and I sold 1 house in the last 2 weeks. I opened a resource Vendor, and he (along with my Weapons & Vehicle Vendor)is keeping my going now.
I'm glad some of you are doing well. But I believe you are in a minority. And nothing I have read or seen anywhere leads me to believe things will improve. Grinders can and do build one of the most common things we sell after 2 boxes in Housing and flood the market (1 tree down), furniture is a limited market due to saturation, no varience & zero decay(2nd tree gone), experimentation has limited uses since a 0/2/4/0 grinder using 950+ grade materials can make top line Harvesters (3 & 4 trees shot). Holo-Grinders now can flood the market with low cost, non degradeable, zero fluction items. If your already an Arch & enjoy it, great. But don't go there if your looking for a profession to join.
