I like it, I see problems, like people just leaving it there for weeks and weeks, would have to make it decay away after 2 and a half weeks and anything on top would go boom.

Absolutely, it would have maintenance as well, and probably higher maintenance (esp. for the larger ones!), of course, it would still be affordable, even if it did cost you an extra 50k a week or 10k a day to have one set up with 4 heavies on top, if you had a high resource concentration. And lets not discount that you would probably also be able to build homes on top too. You could have a whole "City in the Hills" with all these homes on top of these giant platforms... it'd be sweet.

The Harvesting Platform is basically a platform, on stilts, that harvesters can be placed on.

It would look similar to the Tie-Fighter platforms that were in Rogue-Squadron. You know, the ones in that one level where you had to destroy the ATST and ATAT factories? There were these big giant "Table" platforms with Ties on them, and storage underneath. At any rate...

A harvester would purchase one of these from an architect. They would cost about... 5,000 resources to craft or so. They wouldn't have any kind of rate or anything, because they are like houses, no experimentation. The harvester would then place the platform on a hill or some other "harvester-unfriendly" terrain. The stilts would extend to the ground at all corners, and yield a flat, level surface for placing a harvester on top. There could be several different sizes... like for instance, one that holds 4 personal harvesters, or one that holds only one heavy harvester, or one that holds like... 4 heavy harvesters. These platforms are NOT re-deedable. This means each time you need to build on a hillside, you need to purchase more from an architect. Can you imagine how they'd look? They would have like a big stairway on one side going up to the top, so you could manage the harvesters. Then there would be some sort of apparatus that goes from the harvester, down into the platform, and from there, into the ground.

Key Points:

  • Allows construction on bad terrain, but at a relatively high cost.
  • Provides return customers to architects. Currently, once you buy an Architect's product, you don't have to come back to replace it, like WS or AS.
  • Fairly statically priced, since they can't be experimented, probably would only go for 10-15k or so.
  • Allows previously unobtainable amounts of resources to be harvested (haven't you ever found that perfect survey, 98%, but its in the mountains?
  • Might be expanded to allow placement over water (question, where do you stand to place it?).
  • Another "Money-Sink", they could require some sort of maintenance to remain standing.

What does everyone think? I think its a good idea, but i might drive prices up ever so slightly for resources, since one has to pay that extra few bucks to build on a hill.

This would be an excellent idea. To many times you go to a place that is very hard to place harvesters because the terrain is just a little uneven, not to mention the times you get them up in the mountains.

I wouldn't want to have to pay maintenance for them though. That is just yet another thing that I would have to worry about.

Make it so that when you pulled the harvesters off of the platform, the platform disappears.

Make it so we can set it up in water too. I really want off-shore drilling platforms.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

That would look cool. Offshore drilling rigs sitting off the coast of Naboo. Or a rig sticking up off Amidalia's Beach in the Lake Retreat.

Off-Shore platforms. mmmm wasn't that some 20th century invention? Aren't we sometime in the way future? Off-shore drilling is archane. And don't talk to me about cross drilling, or strip mining a mountain to get at resources there. My god, that was so Neanderthall.

Hehe First off if you read all that writing at the begining of the movies/games/ect. You will see...

A long time ago in a galaxie far, far, away...

That said, I love this idea. I live near the northern coast of naboo. I always see 80% and higher way out in the water and have to suttle for the 50% on shore. I also like the mountain/cliff aspect. As you know if you live near the cost of naboo you are also near the theed cliffs that run all the way across the planet. Thats also a good spot for high concintrations. I would not make houses buildable on these however. I can just see a mess resulting. Great idea though. Im all for it.
