Here's an idea on how an architect can get repeat business on things such as harvesters:
How about adding a condition to the harvester? When it reaches a certain condition (like our speederbikes, etc) it will need to be repaired or it will affect the efficiency of the harvester. However, you will need to purchase a harvester reconstruction kit (made by a master architect) and maybe hire an architect with at least level 3 construction skills to fix it. Though the kit will never destroy a harvester, it will cut down the maximum condition and cease to work when it reaches a condition the developers agree upon.
Does this sound like a good idea? If it does, maybe it will be passed on to the proper people.

I like the idea of having a repair tool and have devay on the harvesters, but I don't think I'd like making house calles to people's harvesters to fix them myself. But I really do like the idea of decay on harvesters, I think it only makes sense.

The idea has been around on the boards since Nov 2003 I believe. This doesn't invalidate your suggestion, just reinforces that something like it is a good idea to develop.
