Hi all,
I havnt really done much of the crafting professions (been a BH since I started). Since I cant give up BH I am going to make my alt into a crafter, I always liked the idea of crafting buildings and furnature... my question to you is do you think its worth it? Also do you need really good resources like the other craftingprofessions?
Thanks in advanced,
Elyssa

That's how I got started as an Architect.
I couldn't give up bounty hunter but I really liked crafting.
Turns out that I liked architect more than bounty hunter and gave up that character altogether.

I started much the same as Elyssa. I created a crafter alt which somehow became my primary character.
Most any profession is a good amount of work. Tailor might be an exception, though it's aggravating dealing with customer requests for specific shades of color described only by words. Yeah, you do need good resources. You're going to need steel and ore with good SR, HR and UT. And hundreds of thousands of units of grind lube oil, carbonate and other low grade ore, copper, aluminum, steel, reactive gas and inert gas. Architect is very resource intensive. The plus side is that except for master level furniture, you rarely need any specific type of resource - generic classes will do fine.
Is the class worth it? Well there are a lot of problems with the architect class. The devs haven't been very responsive to the deficiencies in the profession. I guess it really depends on why you want crafter and how much effort you're planning to give and how much reward for that effort you're anticipating. It's difficult to judge for other people whether a long journey is worthwhile for them.
I appreciate being a known architect on my server. Being known as someone you can go to to reliably get your architect services at. And I think I'm pretty successful. There have been people that have been more successful on other servers as architects. Heck I'm pretty sure there have been architects on my server that have been more successful. But hey I'm comfortable with my current level of success and my current business. Business sometimes is really good, and sometimes it's very slow, but hey I'm still here.

If it sounds fun to you then sure, I'd say give it a try. If you were just interested in making a quick buck then I'd recommend against it.
Most of our resource requirements are grind quality materials. Furniture and houses use all grind quality. WE do need high quality steel and ore for the harvesters but only 1-2k per harvester of the good stuff but most of the resources can be grind quality . Crafting stations use high quality materials but also require artisan skill points, might take a while to get all the stuff for good stations.

Architect requires the most resources 2nd to shipwright. We use ton of ore and other various metals and chemicals.
Ore will be your most used resource needing both grind and top notch arch ore. ( 900+ UT,SR,HR )
Steel you will need grind and top notch arch steel. A good bit of this also.
Chemical - go with lube oil. Lube oil is best chemical to use for arch. You will need this for a few components and most final assembly products ( harvesters ).
Carb ore - minus use for walls it will also be used to make a few components needed for final assembly. generators being 1 using 250k carb ore to make full run of these.
copper, aluminum, reactive gas, non-ferrous metals, are other resources needed.
Exampe to make full run of generators ( 1000 units ) you will need:
250k copper
150k non-ferrous metal ( copper, alum, non-ferrous)
50k steel
250k carb ore
50k chem
500k aluminum
200k reactive gas.
Make ssm's and sssm's :
50k steel
80k metal
50k steel
200k metal
And walls will eat up metal and ore all day long.
I suggest you know each schematic, how much you need to make final product and stock all components ahead of time. Saves you time crafting.
I always have 3k walls, 2k generators, 500 power cores, 1k manufacturing mechanisms, and 2k of ssm's and 2k of sssm's on hand at all times. Makes custm orders easier and final assembly 100% faster. On down time restock and you are set again.
Arch is a much needed profession, dont undersell yourself or the products. Know the value of the items you sell.
And mine the hell out of ore
You will also need artisan components to make power cores. You need master artisan for these or find one to make you schematics. Power cores are used in many housing structures and cit structures.

Mastering the Artisan profession will also help as several Architect items require Master Artisan items.
Hide is also important for furniture, and you'll learn real quickly how big a pain it is to keep a steady supply of woolly hide for your projects.
Also, getting some skills in the Merchant tree will help you in the long run.

This is the best advice that you can have...if your going architect to make money, then don't do it. Other crafting profs make a ton more creds than archi's. If your doing it because you think you'll enjoy the prof, then by all means, welcome to the community...

Not to say that you can't make a profit as an architect. But theres lots of other ways to make as much or more money with little or similiar effort as what you'd put into architect. And getting yourself established initially in any crafting profession can take a while like 1-2 months.
