Unless someone has tabulated a huge amount of data to prove otherwise, then neither experimentation on the tool nor experimentation on the product or subcomponents affects how often you succeed or fail. The same goes for resource quality.
I really, really hope someone can prove otherwise to me without saying "Well it seems" or "I noticed". Let's get some people who've run some numbers in here.

i just got critical failure on a small tatooine house. it royally sucked. is it better to use a gen craft tool than a structure crafting tool to make a house if dont care about experimenting? also does the quality of the structure crating tool matter in the critical failure chance?
