Thread: Harvester maintenance and gather rates
Can someone please tell me what the different maintenance and harvesting rates are for the different harvester sizes? I have been using a personal mineral harvester for the past day and it seems to run about 1000cr per day and got me over 1900 steel on a 64% survey location, so I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy a larger harvester. I am trying to gather all of the necessary resources for a PA hall to save myself about 150k credits, but I also don't have forever to get them since I'll be starting the fall term next Monday and I won't be able to play much once that happens (I took the summer term off). The main things I need are the 17,000+ metals and 37,000+ low-grade ore.
Little help?
Pesonal 2/Kg per minute
Medium 4Kg/min
Heavy 7Kg/min
Fusion 13Kg/min

This was slightly confusing so I thought I would elaborate...
The rates on harvesters are listed as (kg/hour ), but that equals out to ( unit of resource/minute )
Personal harvesters are 2 units per minute
Mediumharvesters are 4 units per minute
Heavy harvesters are 7 units per minute.
Fusion is a type of power collector, so don't think there are Fusion Water collectors that gather at 13 per minute. It only works on power, placed on a radioactive mineral source.
Also power collectors gather at different rates than regular harvesters (mineral, chemical, flora)
Wind are 5 per minute
Solar are 7 per minute
Fusion are 13 per minute
PS: All lots take up 1 per harvester, no matter the size. Although the footprint area grows, making bigger harvesters harder to place.
To answer your question, the bigger harvesters are better buys for the price to collection ratio. There is no change in personal to medium sizes though. Medium harvesters cost twice as much to run but gather twice as fast. Your best "buy" would be a large harvester. They gather slightly more than they cost compared to a personal.
I hope I didn't make it more confusing, hehe.
2 unit per minute, 4 unit per minute, etc. is only correct if you are on a 100% resource spot.
Mediums are like having 2 smalls.
Heavies are like having 3.5 smalls.
The ONLY thing a medium will save you is 1 lot but, it is much harder to place in those tight or bumpy spots.
Heavies are more efficient and use the same space as a medium. If you can get a heavy, skip the mediums.
A simple formula I use t ofigure out how much per day I would get is this.
((Concentration * (KGH/100) * 60) * 24)
For instance, if you have a small harvester and find a 80% concentration spot, you would get 2304 per day.
((80 * (.02) * 60) * 24) = (1.6 units per minite) * 60 minutes * 24 hours
Basically (concentration * KGH) = units per minute.
Now, a medium on the same 80% concentration would yield double the amount of a small BUT, a heavy would yield 3.5 times the amount of a small and takes up the smae space as a medium and only uses 1 lot.
That should be (concentration * (KGH/100)) = units per minute.
Small on 80% = 1.6 units per min
medium = 3.2
large = 5.6
Okay, so I found out through www.swgarchitect.com that the personal mineral harvester runs 720cr and 600 power per day with each increase in size adding the same amount so that a medium harvester costs 1440cr and 1200 power per day and that the large ones cost 2160cr and 1800 power. Can I expect a similar increase in the harvesting rate from these? If I get 1900 steel from a personal harvester in a day, should I expect to get 3800 from a medium one and 5700 from a large one?
Great all, thank you for the help with this! Me and the friend of mine that are getting the resources seem to be doing fine with the required metals, but it's going to take over twice as much low-grade ore, so this will help out immensely in trying to figure out what to do.
What I need to know now is how much I should expect to pay for a large harvester and if it is worth buying one or more since I only need it for this one time. I could probably use it for the resources required for current and future ranger traps and camps, but using a personal harvester will give me more than I would need especially since my friend can make personal harvesters for me for free. So is it going to be more worth it to pay an architect to make me a large harvester for the 37k of ore I'll need or should I just run a ton of personal harvesters?
Well, if it's going to be a one time short term deal and you have the lots, it would probably be better to just buy 4 smalls instead of 1 large. You can get 4 smalls for 4k (if you look around) and 1 large will cost about 85k-125k+
The large is a tad more effecient but 4 smalls isn't that bad to deal with.
Then, when you are done, just throw them away. That's what I used to do before I could make mediums and larges. It was only 250 resources to make them and was cheaper for me to just destroy and remake than to spend the 1500cr to redeed them.
Yeah, that's basically what I think I'm going to do and since the other person harvesting the resources with me has Engineering III and can make personal harvesters, they're free for both of us (since we're sharing the resources). I had read on another thread that large harvesters run about 110k, but with the economies being different on each server, I'm guessing your range is probably pretty good. So it'll just take me longer to get the resources. Oh well.
I have 7 lots left and my friend should have about 5 left, so between us and a second friend (if he starts playing again any time soon), who should have about 6 lots, we should be able to put down a crap-load of small harvesters and just have them run on the highest percentage we can find.
Again, thanks for the help, all!
