Thread: Give me a reason to buy your stuff???
Greetings all, I am a Bounty Hunter so forgive me if this post is repetitive as I have not read the other post.
The purpose of this post is to offer a proposal, one that would give me an practical reason to purchase things.
Here is some background on my post:
Let's say I buy a PA Hall (let's leave out the debate as to why I would do that consisdering there are little to no benifit for professions thatare not artisans), this question is about "why should I furnish it"? (but the principle applies to both)
Well, you might say to make it look nice, and I would agree with you. But is that really a reason to pay $50K to $100K (to furnish it up nice) on items that have no functional purpose? I'd rather spend that money on things I need or can actually use, for me that would be Armor, Weapons, Deeds for my PA to sell stuff, maintains cost.
I don't mean to upset anyone with this, but once I account for the storage needs of my ArmorSmith and WeaponSmith's tools and minerals and other items, I have VERY few "Items" left over. As a result, I cannot furnish the place because I need all 250 Items for them.
So, here is my proposal.
Why don't they make the furniture items functional. Meaning, if I buy a Dresser or a End Table, I should be able to "store" things in them! Now, here is the BONUS, the items that are being stored in the Dresser or End Table do not get counted against me when it comes to determining the Maxium Items Stored for the structure.
Now I have a functional reason for buying your items (other them just buy a ton to Back Packs). I can "furnish" a room in my PA Hall for my PA's ArmorSmith that has his Tools and a few Dressers that he can store his stuff in and it is not counted against my max of 250 items. The dresser would count against it, but not the5 (max) Items I put in it.
Everything would have a "functional purpose" (@ no cost to your Item Count)
- Tables could hold up to 5 Guns
- Armoirs could hold a Set of Armor or Cloths
- Toolchests would hold Tools (Survey devices, weapon repair kits, Etc)
- Sitting in a Chair increases your healing rate (if medic is healing youror you are watching an Entertainer)
This would give me the incentive to buy lots of furniture and at the same time I get a "Beneift" for doing so.
What are your thoughts...
I like your ideas of functional furniture. I agree with Creadux also. Please take your ideas to the Developers. I would like for them to hear from our consumers what they would like to see us Architects producing for them.

Actually, I've posted this in about 4 sections trying to figure out the right place for it. I put it in the SWG Discussion section, Artisan Section, and here. I figured that your coorispondant could forward it.
First, I agree that it would be nice for furniture to have more functions, but providing addtional storage is highly unlikely unless the devs figure out what to do about their database problems.
Second, if you were a bounty hunter before the most recent patch and don't have 50-100k extra beyond what you need for "useful" stuff, then I'd have to say you weren't using your ability to generate income to its fullest potential. As a smuggler I could generate 25k every 30 minutes when that was my goal, and my bounty hunter friend could do better. That rate isn't possible anymore, but you can still make decent cash.
Personally, when I see an unfinished building, I think "newb". ![]()
"why should I furnish it"?
Because this is an RPG and not everything in the game is/should be directly solely at the task of skill progression?
While I agree that drawers etc should be able to hold stuff, I doubt this will be permitted to extend the current housing capacities (as this has been done for database reasons) and as such many players would still find 'no point' in purchasing furniture
Well, those are interesting points, but just because this is a RPG, don't mean you do things for the sake of doing them.
In any RPG, there is exchange of information, experiance, advice, and friendships that are developed. Buying furniture for the sake of it doesn't contribute th=o that in any way.
You can think "noob" all you want, but when I see some with a fully furnished house, I think man, they must have been REALLY bored.
Frankly I don't care if they make the change, I was just offering a suggesting to you all that wouldincrease demand for yourproducts. If you want to livewiththe ways things are now, the haveat it.
Asfor why I do not have 100K just sitting around to waste on unless items, I've bought 2 small houses (Shops for the PA), 1 large house (Shop for the PA), a PA Hall, 2 full sets of Composite Armor, 15 different weapons, and TONs of expensive travel tickets. And I tip entertainers& medics for the GREAT job that they do.

Wow - we almost think the same:
You can think "noob" all you want, but when I see some with a fully furnished house, I think man, they must have been REALLY bored.
Only I thought:
You can think "noob" all you want, but when I see some with a totally pointless post, I think man, they must have been REALLY bored.
Careful not to break your spine with that pat on the back on all those expensive purchases !
Limits to the amounts of items in houses (excluding vendors) were put there to keep the database from overloading. So, I really don't think you'll ever see any increase in the amount of items that can be stored in any kind of structure.
Anian
They need to increase\improve the database so it can.
I agree, make furniture useable.

Colwen, I do not want to get into a post war with you, but try and understand that I am trying to provide you (artisans) some feedback.
Your professions make you all the "businessmen" within this game. As a result, I am a potential customer. I am not bragging about how much money I've made in the game or anything else. I am just provide you with my opinion (and others that I ahve talk to) about some improvements (or the customer's needs) that would helo increase revenue for all of you.
As in the real world, you can ignore me and continue to do what you are doing, or you can try and meet the needs of the customer.
As for the Database, if they allow furniture to hold stuff (say 5 items each) then they can reduce the max items allowed by 70%. In effect, you would only increase the Total Items by a small percentage.
IE: PA Hall hold 250 items, reduce that to 65 and with the Furniture Storage you could effectively have 325 (65 * 5 = 325).
This is just a suggestion, do with it what you want.
