Thread: resource pricing help
in light of the current experimentation announcement i need help in pricing a resource..
gegert steel DR 1000, UT 933..i have a fair bit of it and although i will be keeping some im wondering what i should be looking at per cpu..i have allready had 2 pm's asking if i had any to sell, and rather than either ripping them off or myself off i said no..any help appreciated.
High UT materials will be worth more to architects due to the new experimentation. However, we'll need enough of it that we can't afford to pay too high of a premium.
I don't think that 1000 DR makes any difference to us. It might be worth more to weaponsmiths or armorsmiths.
The wierd thing about the resource market in SWG is that you can get more for good resources in large quantities than you can in small quantities. It's because of the way large-scale manufacturing is set up.
Crafters who run factories need a large amount of a given resource to run their factories. Of course, this is because a given schematic requires that you deposit large amounts of the same resource that was used in the experimentation phase which created the schematic.
On Kauri, I never set a harvester on any resource unless I have a specific contract for a minimum of 20K units. If it's a very good resource, I will leave the harvesters on it until the resource shifts, and stockpile the excess for when it's no longer available.
I price all my resources at 4cpu, irregardless of planet of origin. I can do this because I never set a harvester on a resource that scores lower than 900, using the resource calculator at SWGCraft.com. A few exceptions to these rules: If a customer is in a bind for a particular resource, and they are willing to place a minimum order of 20K, I will place a heavy on that resource. This is not really cost-efficient, but I consider it a service to my regular customers. Sometimes, in that case, you just have to find the best available resource of that type that is currently available...and often it scores much lower in the resource calculator. I still sell the resource for 4cpu, and the customers are glad to pay it.
The other exception is low-concentration resources, Water and Low Grade Ores. Because it is extremely rare to find those in concentrations above 65%, I price 950+ OQ Water at 5cpu. Once again, customers are satisfied with this. I don't harvest Low Grade Ores at all. Because of the low-balled, depressed market for architect goods, I would have to sell those ores at 2-3 cpu, which does not make efficient use of my harvester/lots.
If I had a stockpile of the steel you are talking about, it would be because a customer had contracted for it. The UT is great. DR is meaningless. Even weaponsmiths and armorsmiths don't consider DR to be a factor at all. However, OQ would be important to several crafting professions. If the OQ of that steel is above 900, I would price it at 4cpu. If it is below 900, I would have never mined for it in the first place. To get rid of it, sell it for 2.5 cpu.
It's never just one stat that determines the worth of a resource, unless that resource only has one meaningful stat (water).
