Which kind of large house and in which room? Does the room have any part of the floor that's lower than the area where you're dropping the rug?

My rug "floats" in a med naboo. I don't like it!! It will go up, but it does not come down. Of course, you can't see it when it's up. I know, cause I tried to sendit up to then trick it down.

I've bug reported this before. If you drop a rug, it's actually a little off the ground so table legs, your feet, or other things you happen to drop disappear. If we could move things lower than their drop point, this would be fine, but at the moment we cannot. Nor have I heard any mention from any dev that it's even being considered.

It's not really an architect problem, but it is furniture so I thought I'd post it here, in the chance that architects to get to make rugs someday.
Currently, rugs hover4 inches off the floor. They can't be lowered any further in relation to the lowest floor point in the current room. If you've got a room with raised floor such as some of the guild halls or the medium Tatooine house, you can get it to align properly with the higher floor levels. But it will not lay perfectly flat on the floor .
