I just got to novice architect, and I'm trying to decide whether to grind out walls by hand or build a factory and go that way (and thereby getting crates to make life easier). But I'm kind of worried about whether I'll get the same (if any) XP as if I did it by hand. Somehow it doesn't seem like that'll be the case.
Could someone help me, please?
Thanks.

No XP for factory items. The devs took that out of the game back in August, I believe.

Rosh, just a little insight here.. make them, store them in your house via back packs, or, use your safe deposit box at your local bank too. If you find that you are running out of room.. switch over to practice mode.. yes, it's a waste of resources, but, you get your exp for making it, without making it. Either that or put a few more houses up or get some friends to do it for you. which ever is easiest.
