Does it matter what materials you use in them since they dont have a experimenting ??? will it effect the outcome

None at all. Our guild has a gas static field for this because when the good stuff hits it helps and when it's not hitting the two architects (including myself) just grab the cruddy reactive for generators and fireworks.
