I've actually been off-line for quite some timenow, however all 4 of my accts are currently still active.
I'm pretty sure that architect was the very first profession I ever mastered, though it was mastered on my second acct (Imagine that...I got a second acct, before even mastering 1 profession).
Anyway, I generally liked making stuff as an architect, and in my prime was one of the better architects on my little server. On Super-Tuesday (the day the crafting rules were changed for 24 hrs), I was one of only 2 architects on my server to make the elusive perfect BER 14 heavy harv. I still have that schematic, and some resources to make a few more (10...maybe 15 more?), but alas, it's all probably going to find the bit bucket.
I started, with the idea to just sell furniture and housing, having really never much liked experimenting, and throughout my days when I had a vendor, I always had stocked furniture, though don't ask me to make you a data terminal. Of course, wanting harvs for myself, I did eventually amass plenty of superior resources for harvs, and sold my fair share.
In my last months of playing, I probably sold only a handful of harvs. Whether it was my location, my period of inactivity, or the fact that there really was little demand for harvestors, I will never truly know. What I do know, however, is those architects that were listing their experimented wares for ~3cpu yelled dead profession louder than anything I can imagine.
But alas, that's not why I'm leaving the game. For one dead profession, a bad game does not make. No, instead I would have to say that SOE managed to allow a game that was immensely fun, to eventually become unfun. As a game, around the end of 2003, this really was a very good game. Most of the really bad bugs were out, player cities, mounts, vehicles, and food were in, and life was pretty good. And then SOE got greedy, and began working on JTL. I'll admit, they detoured a bit for the Jedi publish (and fix-publish and re-publish), but as much as I wanted to love trying to become a Jedi, I just couldn't. It was boring, mostly solo work. The corvette, too, was an awesome addition, as was the Geono Cave, but even though I was part of the first Jet Pack assembly on Shadowfire, the DWB was a huge miss in my book. The difficulty was way off the scale for that to be considered "fun".
In the end, I'm leaving the game, because it became a solo-ist adventure, and boring. Aside from developing a jedi, I had done everything. My 4 accts allowed me to be wholly self-sufficient, and my equipment allowed me to almost instantly press the "I win" button (uber armor, uber rifles, uber swords). Perhaps that was my fault, but I was the mayor of a town, the leader of a guild, and the friend of many. I wanted the greatest chat program ever developed to be just a bit more. To have more adventure, and more intrigue, and especially, more fun. But alas the game degraded into a bunch of "solo groups" and "jedi grinders".
I'll miss the best of times, remember the worst of times, and always think fondly about what could have been. Good luck to you all. Our profession is truly the anchor profression for every other one in the game. Without harvs and houses, there is no game, and to each of you that recognize that and it is why you are here, I bid ado.
