Looking at the crafting calculator, it shows a max BER of 10.8 at 95% experimentation with the resources I selected. Does the game actually show a benefit for this extra .8 or are we better to use the left over experimentation points to increase the hopper size?
Thank you,

This is an interesting question. My immediate reaction, and I think the common belief, was no. But then I remembered that two mining installations on the same percentage concentration of resource will often show a small difference in the reported Kg/H. I always assumed this was due to the percentage concentration actually having more precision than was shown, i.e. an 80% spot is actually 79.8% or 80.4%. However, is it possible that this difference is actually due to a non-visible difference in the extraction rate of the mining installation? I might have to test this out!

I'm pretty sure people have tested it and found that the BER rating is rounded off to an integer with no decimals hidden.
One way of looking at it: If there were a hidden decimal in the BER rating then it would be noticable in the output. We'd have variations between 10.0 and 10.9from one medium to another and if placed on 80% density that would mean output of 11.5k verus 12.5k. Thats sigificant enough for people to see.

Indeed. Tested and confirmed. A 78% experimented BER4 personal mineral extractor on an 88% spot has a rate of 3.55Kg/H. A 95% experimented BER4 personal mineral extractor on the exact same spot has the exact same rate.

Gonna go ahead and disagree here....possibly...
Not saying y'all are wrong but heres my story...
Made some ore mining units... this was way back... While experimenting I stopping putting exp points into the BER as soon as it hit 6.. this left me with 2 blank points in the BER exp tree if ya follow me.
Now these OMUs had a listed BER of 6, but when i went to make the actual harvs using high grade resources best i could manage with these OMUs was BER 12 heavy harvs. I contacted a CSR and was told that the actual BER of the OMUs was too low in its decimal value to reach a true 6, so even tho they listed as 6 they were actually a 5 in the value system.
Point of the rant: The decimal values DO play a role in crafting, Im just not certain to what extent. I had a post and a screnie about this long ago.. I'll see if i can find it and link it..

Yes the experimentation rate on the OMU does matter for the final BER. The harvester BER is a combination of the mining component's experiment % result + the final combine experiment % result.
So yes OMUs and other mining componts have hidden quality other than the BER # shown.
But the final BER on the harvester doesn't keep hidden decimal points.

Spawn percentage x BER = rate of extraction per tic
Yup, that's about right
