Thread: Idea...
Ok so while reading one of the many architect posts about pricing, and how some charge too low or some charge too high I came across the perfect question to be answered for our profession.
"What is something an architect could provide that a combat player would want just as much as a gun?"
Now, while I dont profess to have the exact answer to this question, myself and a friend have come up with an idea which could provide for a foundation to creating this one "thing."
Architects could provide fortified locations and turrets(currently only bought by faction pts)which could be built on planets which houses can not, however they would have a finite timespan after being placed. The fortifications would have varying degrees of effectiveness similar to camps however, would have one main difference. The fortifications would have mission terminals.
Personal Fortification- This fortification would only provide a small building/tent with an available mission terminal. I would recommend that this fort have a timespan of24 hours and provide no healing or defense bonuses. This fort could require a resource cost of approximately1000 units with 1 lot requirement.
Small Fortification - This fort would be similar to fort I though have the added option of defense. Not only would the fort have a smalldefense against creatures, the owner/admins could also place 1 turret to assist in the defense of the fort. This option would have a48 hr time span and would still not provide any healing bonus. The option could cost approximately 2500 resources and would cost power to run the optional turrets. Option II would havea2 lot requirement.
Medium Fortification - This fort is more complicated than the previous 2. Would provide a higher defense against creatures as well be afforded the option of4 turrets. This option would also provide medics a location to heal wounds. Thetimespancould be expanded to72 hrs at this level and thefort would require 2 lots. Fort III would require approximately 7500 resources.
Large Fortification - The most complicated of the forts. This fort would increase defense, provide location for healing wounds, and battlefatigue healing. Fort would have same option of 4 turrets, its timespan would be96 hrs, and cost 4 lots. The resources required for fort IV would be approximately 10,000 to 12,000.
Player Outpost(Master Architect) - The outpost would be permanent based on maintenance costs. The outpost would provide highest lvl of fortification defense, optional 6 turrets, medic wound healing and entertainer battlefatigue healing locations, and locations for vendors. The player outpost would also be provided with a bank and bazaar terminal. However, the outpost would require resources, maintenance, etc similar to that of a PA Hall.
Ok so thats the idea, there are obviously many pros and cons to be had with this idea. Here are a few of the major ones I see.
Pro - Provide architects a market for the combat player, AND it would in effect provide a return market and profit.
Pro - New items for architect to create, forts and turrets.
Pro - A player would have the option to travel deeper into the wilds of advanced planets and set up a 'base of operations' for a period of time.
Pro - Witha mission terminal in the forts/outpost the player would not have to repeatedly return to a city to receive missions.
Con - Possible exploit, 1 group of ppl could set up 2 forts approximately 2-4km from each other and run missions back and forth, thus doubling the amount of money they make.
Con - Possible step on scout/ranger toes.
Con - Possible high cost on a temporary structure, would combat players pay for the service?
Ok, so I listed a few things that I thought of. I'd like to see what others think about it. What is your answer to the question of, "what can an architect provide a combat player that he would want as much as his/her gun?" If you dont like the idea, pls provide your constructive criticism as to why.

Ok let me try out some really rusty math here.
The right order of profession order would assuming the mastering of 3 professions in the correct order....
6.17 E~45th power. Something like 6170000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 to 1. I think I got enough 0s. So if my math is right one person/mammal/thing might get a FS slot within the next century.
Has anyone heard the story about the monkeys typing the works of Shakespeare? Yeah about that rare.
