Thread: An Epiphany! Critical failures and when they started. Found a connection
Ok, /oliver stone on
I distinctly remember that when funtctionality ratings were added to crafting stations and crafting tools was about the time I started having a harder time with crits. I have noticed that crafting with the 12.34 station in my storage shed yeilds less crits then with my 38 in the PA Hall. Anyone else notice this?
i Used to get 1 ijn 12 crits..annoying to say the least, once had 5 heavies crit in a row.
since made a 14.85 crafting tool and bought a 42.? crafting sattion and havent had a crit yet aprt from an isloated structural module.
Have you noticed that, once in a while, you'll get an error that says something about not having the right resources in the schematic? I think this happens when the system gets out of sync - somehow the UI reports that the schematic is ready to go, but (due to lag) the server is NOT ready to go. I think that this used to result in critical failures, but now it cancels the crafting session.
Mostly speculation... but I've not seen a critical failure in a long time.
I use a 14.94 tool and i've used -9 to the +12 I have now and I've seen absolutely no difference in crit fails. I can't remember the last time I critted on a final assembly... I crit on the occasional wall, but its something like 1 in 25 or 30 i'd guess.
I crit most often on furniture items and there's no comparable difference whether i'm in front of a station, using a droid or standing at the bazaar.
But if I stand naked while waving a live chicken over my head when I click the final combine I note a large drop in Critical failures.
Neila Where is that number for Gargamel?
( Neila once said that she has tried everything but offering to be Gargemels sex toy to lower crit failures, I must have sat here laughing for an hour![]()

You must be thinking of someone else; I never said that. Not that I wouldn't have given it a try.
There was some speculation, by the way, that the code for high-bonus crafting stations was bugged and it was giving a penalty instead of a bonus. The speculation was that, when we started being able to see the bonus from crafting stations and tools, we started building better stations, and that the bugged code then led to an epidemic of critical failures.
The epidemic seems to have subsided. Did they stealth-fix a bug in the crit failure computation? Or was there something else going on, e.g. the server can't load the stats on your crafting station because the database is overloaded so it uses the wrong number in the crit failure calculation? Its all speculation and, unless a Dev offers some insight, it will remain speculation. But, from my observations, the crit fail epidemic is over. (Of course, by saying this I've guaranteed the next 20 harvesters I bulid will blow up - Durn Tootin I'm superstitious).

Sounds like you are on Radiant... The 14.85 tool would be made from Eeke Copper... ^_^
I use 14.97 rated tools adn 42+ rated statins and almost never have criticals... It's probably 1 in 100 or so... usually happens on furniture... ^_^
