Thread: Ridiculous!!

Ok, this is a rant... I can easily sell the same Steel that we use to build Mining Units for major cpu to WS and they don't blink at paying 32cpu for a SR 999 Steel that we use to make 96% Mining Units. Someone just sold a SR 984 Steel that would give me 94% Mining Units for 10cpu, signed, sealed and delivered. I'm sitting on 2 million units of that same Steel !!! The only thing that makes it worthwhile to build a Harvester is that I also get 5 - 10 cpu for all the cheap Ore we use for the walls. Rant off....

Actually, I don't think of it that way.

I'll just use really round numbers here so I don't have to look things up right now.

A heavy mineral harvester takes 28K of resources. Of those about 10% (call it 3K) are the really high quality stuff - for the final assembly and the OMUs.

One way to think about it is we put most of our effort on "quality" (in terms of really paying attention to what we harvest and use) on that 3K. The other stuff is "filler". Yes, we have to do it, but it's just bulk resources.

IF you used that "filler" for the final or OMU, then essentially your harvester would be worthless. I don't think you can give away a BER7 Heavy, can you?

So that high-quality stuff is the "secret sauce" that makes that harvester worth something.

When I sell a heavy harvester for 160K, in a way I'm selling the 25K of "filler" for 3 cpu and the high-quality stuff for 29 cpu.

You can turn the knobs to suit yourself, and it's not a perfect model, but I think it validly puts something in perspective. When you buy a brand new house you figure so much per square foot, knowing full well that the granite kitchen sink costs more than the garage floor. If someone else is just buying a kitchen remodel with the new sink, they will pay a lot more on a relative scale.

Good point ZenDragon. Its just that the addition overhead, effort and training required to earn those rates figures into my current frustrations. Since anyone with Novice Artisan, a bunch of umm... Harvesters, a Survey Tool, and SWGCraft can easily earn the same as a Master Architect.

It's true - if you are ok with running harvesters, then miners typically have an edge over architects. They have more lots available. They can mine whatever they want, as opposed to what they need to build stuff.

OTOH I get 29 cpu for that high-quality stuff, and because of the breakpoints in harvesters I can charge that even when using stuff that just barely goes over 900, whereas a miner would only get 5-7 cpu for that.

This is so unrealistic.....

Plans may yet change....

If there is one thing about MMORPGs that is certain... it's that things are uncertain... and change is a part of it...
