Thread: Why are large house owners penalized three times?

I am a large house owner. Like anyone who believes in the laws of physics, I was under the impression that a large house could hold more items. Yet I read these forums and find that this is not the case - my large will hold the same amount of items as that small down the road. This makes no sense.

As a large house owner, I am apparently being penalized ... three times, for little extra benefit.

1) The cost of building

2) The number of lots consumed

3) Daily maintenance.

The only benefits I receive are space and status (with status being a debatable tradeoff for stupidity). Space is nice, I will admit, as I have items to put on display that need the higher ceilings and extra room. Status is negligible.

You can argue that a larger structure should require more resources to make - given. You can argue that if you are alotted a certain amount of land, that a larger structure should take a larger proportion of that - given. You can also argue that a larger structure should require more maintenance - given. But all of this depends upon a conventional form of reason, the same thing that would necessitate an argument that a larger house should be able to store more things, by sheer volumetric reasons alone.

I dont think that everyone should have a large house. But I do think those that are willing to spend the extra money to build, use the extra lots to place, and spend the extra money to upkeep should be rewarded with extra storable space on top of the asthetic benefits of the extra visible space (and the negligible benefit of status). It is only fair, and makes sense.

Well, with today's patch I can now carry more items in my backpack than I can store in a small house. I have no idea if they nerf'd medium and large houses as well, but a small house can now only store 50 items.

I can see how houses of varying sizes should allow for different storage limits, so I'm not arguing there. But iftoday's resultis a design change, rather than a bug, I am left scratching my head. How in the world does it make any sense that a character can carry more items on their physical person, assuming they are wearing a backpack, than they can store in even a small house??

You're **edit**ting me? What happened to stuff stored in one over 50 items?

yup 50 items in a house and 5000 in a bank... good job devs... way to fix things.. =)

Instead of selling houses now, im going to sell back packs for 50k each... at least it has more of a purpose and is convient.

If true, this is colossally stupid. I can only hope it will be fixed soon.

Nothing happened to items over 50, I cleaned out my house and put everything in the input hopper of one my factories over lunch. I had a robo vendor and everything on him counted towards my house limit as well. So I took everything off my vendor and deleted him too. Only thing left in my house are 2 crafting stations, which don't seem to count towards my limit. I had to log off and head back to work, but before I left it looked like input hoppers were working on my crafting stations, I didn't get to test them much though.
