OK so now we need to experiment (good I say being a master should be rewarded now)

As architect and droid eng. are my only artisan exp. Im a bit of a numpty when it comes to experimentation.

Im looking at the schematic for a solar, its says the hopper and extraction rates are based on DR 33% and UT 66%. Ok so my question is this ?

Does this apply to just the resources im using on final combine and not the comonents crafting (so in the case of the solar the manufacturing mechanism, storage module and generator turbine have 0 effect). Instead its the :

  • Load Bearing Frame 200x Steel

  • Structure Sway Joints 200x Chemical

  • Solar Platform 100x Metal

  • Body Shell 300x Metal

  • Structure Foundation 150x Low-Grade Ore

I assume with a DR 33 and a UT 66 that if all my materials had 1000 DR and 1 UT the best I could get is a 33 result (and then my experimentation bonus's).

Thus the UT is the more desirable of the two resource qualities.

In the solar there is a need for chemical, some chemicals dont have a toughness. Do they count as ZERO towards the construction.

For example and remembering the combine is DR33, UT66I have on hand some

  • AFOD (DR 985..mmm nice) but it has no UT attribute.

  • I also have some IOPFED with a (UT of 945 and a low DR of 331)

Which is best to use....I guess the affod would max out around 65% sand the IOP at ?70%? pre experiment?

May I also confirm that for a Heavy Mineral / Fusion the things only that make a difference are :

Final Combine resources + (for the heavy the quality of the Ore Mining Unit (high UT steel please lordy))

Cheers,

and I forgot to ask as a Master is the 5 experimentation points I have a bug....or is us architects just dumb.

Not really sure about the experimentation as it specifically relates to architecture, since I haven't made any yet since it actually worked.

But as to your other question: Yes, us architects are just dumb.

If you use a material that doesn't have a stat that affects the product (chems w/o a UT), then they don't average into the rest of your materials.

So, if UT is 66% of extract rate, and DR is 33% of the rate, then here's how it would work (if steel and chem only mattered).

Chem: UT 300, DR 900... Steel UT 900, DR 900
your average would be UT 600, DR 900

Chem UT --, DR 600... Steel UT 900, DR 900
your average would be UT 900, DR 750

ex 1. 396 + 297 = 693
ex 2. 594 + 247.5 = 841.5

So you see, the 'lesser quality' chem in example two yields higher results simply because it doesn't have a UT.

Well Ijust finished running tests on mediums, didn't feel like "fiddling" around with 27K schematics I'll asnwer some of your questions and see below for my results.

Yes and no. In the Solar Generator in particular this is the case. Other schematic like medium minerals it does matter to a certain extent, more below.

Yes in theory I beleive this is true. I have never tested it though.

Thus the UT is the more desirable of the two resource qualities.

Yes, but idealy you want both. I am currently working with ore that has a 997 DR and 998 UT.

In the solar there is a need for chemical, some chemicals dont have a toughness. Do they count as ZERO towards the construction.

YES, you need to be using either Fiberplast or Polymer. Not Lubricating Oil or Liquid Petro Chem Feul.

For example and remembering the combine is DR33, UT66I have on hand some

  • AFOD (DR 985..mmm nice) but it has no UT attribute.

Never seen these, prolly different server/planet. I am assuming this is a metal since thats the primary component in the final comine. I use Steel for the Load-Bearing, PLatform, and Shell. Either way you are better off Iopfed imo UT is the primary of the two, 40 points is only going to make a 1-3% difference in the final combine and since we are only dealing with hopper size it will not make all that much difference and the 985 is DR which ways less so you are looking at 985 DR @ 33% and 0 @ 66% which will create a larger % gap.

May I also confirm that for a Heavy Mineral / Fusion the things only that make a difference are :

Final Combine resources + (for the heavy the quality of the Ore Mining Unit (high UT steel please lordy))

Yes the final combine is the most important as well as either the Light Ore Mining Unit, Ore Mining Unit, Fluidic Drilling Pump, or Harvesting Unit. Those are the subcomponents that will determine the efficiency of your final harvester.

Cheers,

Bob'the Builder

Here are some tests I got to run when I could finally get on.

Using low grade materials in the final combines

Med. Mineral 1 Low grade materials used in the final combine

Structure Modules - 14%, 36%, 27%

Generator Turbine - 17%

Light Ore Mining Unit - 36%

Small Structure Storage Module - 31%

Start Experimentation 11% end 43%

Starting Hopper Size 52807 end 60944

Starting Efficiency 6Kg/H end 6Kg/H

Med. Mineral 2 Same Low grade materials used in the final combine

Structure Modules - 55%, 49%, 45%

Generator Turbine - 39%

Light Ore Mining Unit - 61%

Small Structure Storage Module - 56%

Start Experimentation 11% end 36%

Starting Hopper Size 52807 end 59194

Starting Efficiency 7Kg/H end 7Kg/H

Med. Mineral 3 Same Low grade materials used in the final combine

Structure Modules - 14%, 14%, 14%

Generator Turbine - 10%

Light Ore Mining Unit - 62%

Small Structure Storage Module - 10%

Start Experimentation 11% end 40%

Starting Hopper Size 52807 end 60069

Starting Efficiency 7Kg/H end 7Kg/H

Med. Mineral 4 High Quality Resources in the final Combine

Structure Modules - 65%, 65%, 65%

Generator Turbine - 33%

Light Ore Mining Unit - 62%

Small Structure Storage Module - 61%

Start Experimentation 27% end 56%

Starting Hopper Size56778 end 64040

Starting Efficiency 7Kg/H end 7Kg/H

Med. Mineral5 SameHigh Quality Resources in the final Combine

Structure Modules - 14%, 14%, 14%

Generator Turbine - 10%

Light Ore Mining Unit - 62%

Small Structure Storage Module - 10%

Start Experimentation 27% end 57%

Starting Hopper Size56778 end 64303

Starting Efficiency 7Kg/H end 7Kg/H

Med.Chemical1 High Quality Resources in the final Combine

Wall Modules- 9%, 9%, 9%

Generator Turbine - 10%

Fluidic Drilling Pump- 50%

Small Structure Storage Module - 10%

Start Experimentation 25% end 42%

Starting Hopper Size56300 end 60675

Starting Efficiency 7Kg/H end 7Kg/H

Solar Generator 1High Quality Resources in the final Combine (This came out only as a good success)

Generator Turbine - 10%, 10%(used in MM)

Manufacturing Mechinism- 14%

Small Structure Storage Module - 10%

Start Experimentation 22% end 45%

Starting Hopper Size55607 end 61294

Starting Efficiency 8Kg/H end 8Kg/H

Solar Generator 1High Quality Resources in the final Combine (This came out as a great success)

Generator Turbine - 50%, 44%(used in MM)

Manufacturing Mechinism- 58%

Small Structure Storage Module - 61%

Start Experimentation 27% end 62%

Starting Hopper Size56778 end 65528

Starting Efficiency 8Kg/H end 8Kg/H

So basicly your 4 major subcomponents (Light Ore Mining Unit, Ore Mining Unit, Harvesting Mechinism, and Fluidic Drilling pump) Directly releate to your harvesters efficiencey and is dictated strictly by the quality of these 4 components, final combine or other subcomponents take no part in efficiency.

The final combine directly relates to the hopper size. It appears that the old hopper values are the baseline (please note this IS different than what was on test that started the panic). Subcomponents play zero roll in the harvesters hopper size.

This all seems pretty straight forward now, my only question is I am hearing reports of Fusions that are up to 22Kg/H ?? and with hoppers over 400k. This is not consistant with the above data assuming it scales logicly. It appears that you can not effect the solars efficiency since it does not use one of the 4 main components and teh manufacturing mechinism (if consistant with the light ore mining units) should have pumped it up by at least 1Kg/H to 9. So they are either bugged like all the unplaced harvesters or i am missing something for the efficiency increase. I had my factory busy with other stuff so I didn't have time to make one is efficiency an experimental stat on them?

My turn to play dumb, so, as long as UT is high on a resource the rest is not that pertinent, except for DR?

And I am sorry, but my retention span sorta suxxor and I got lost halfway thru your well thought out post. Is the Highg UT needed for subcomponents or all this only for final combine?

Correct, UT is the most important stat to look for in most experimentation. DR is important to a lesser extent in certain schematics. For the most part all other stats conductivity etc is irellivent to an architect.

The only subcomponents that UT matters on is the light ore mining unit, ore mining unit, fluidic drilling pump, and harvesting mechinism. All other subcomponents don't need to be experimented i.e. structure storage modules, stucture modules, wall modules etc. The final combine materials used will determine the hopper capacity, while the 4 above mentioned sub components will determine harvester efficiency.

So Overall Quality doesn't play a role in our work then? We just care about UT and DR?

But is experimentation working again? The ones I made last night reverted. If I remake some will they get the new efficiencies?

Btw: the only thing that actually reverted was the efficiency...the new storage capacity stayed.

The reason for the high fusions is that prior to patch there was an experimentation on effiency during the final combine. Post patch there is no longer that option. Therefore if someone experimented on both the ore mining unit and the final combine and had great successes on a pre patch fusion they could have created a fusion much better than the ones we are able to create now.

Those pre patch fusions will be extremely rare and very sought after if the extraction rates remain as is.

Thanks alot for all the brilliant explanations.

Im churning out and selling BER 10's Heavy minerals and some extremely profitable BER 7 mediums.

I made some exceptional fusions (not realising the bug) and was really pleased to sell them so quick...now I wish Id kept 1 for me !!!! One of those 19eff. baby's would feed my whole heavy plantation !

Oh and is 8 the best you can get on a solar...

And a funny...the day before the patch I ran off (in factory) 50 Ore Mining Units, 50 Fluidics and 30 Manuf. Mechs.....thank be to St. Brick (patron saint of builders) that I experimented on them all and used some good steel, they are all 9 or 10 rating components.
