I go by whatever is in demand. I sell LOTS of metal chairs for some reason and so I make a concerted effort to stock lots of individual chairs as well as crates for the bulk purchaser. Same is true with both types of beds.

Only problem with this is that you have to wait a while before you know what does and what doesn't sell, so get a feel for your market before you go cranking out a bunch of stuff which you'll be restocking for months to come.

I deal almost exclusively in furniture and I like to cater to high-volume customers.
I try to keep 20 individual units of everything and then 3 crates of 10 for a total of 50 of each thing.
For things that are popular, I'll raise the numbers to 30/7 so that I've got 100 available.

There are some things that are less popular and I'll stock them in either a 20/3 or 10/4 pattern but allow them to come much closer to selling out before I restock.

This serves two functions for me:

1) Things stay in stock and I don't run out of things too often, and

2) I store my crates on the vendors priced to sell so if I run out of singles I can just split a crate and put it right back on sale.

I don't always stock master-level furniture because of resource requirements, and there are a few things I sell exclusively in crates like plants and torches.

In regards to furniture remember that by standard some one for example will put 4 or more chairs around a single table. So with this example you would want to stock no less than 4 times as many chairs as tables. This is true with several other pieces of furniture also, such as plants, lighting, ect. As a general rule you need to put yourself in the frame of mind of the average home decorater.

I usually stock a few individual examples. Except for certain products, almost all my furniture stock is in crates. So when people buy, they're buying 10 items at a time.
