Furniture was probably coded as a standalone object. It probably references the same object file for all instances of the furniture. Consider the furniture item to be "hardcoded".

Adding color or customization options may require that they actually change the way furniture is coded and manipulated in the game.

Such a change would indeed be a big deal.

Translation: They took a shortcut that screwed over architects. This is the reason there is absolutely ZERO functionality to ANY piece of furniture.

why dont thy let us design our own designs for houses, they could make a program that would let us place rooms and walls where we want, then transfer that into a schematic...........then we price it based off of what materials the program says we require.

Because the Devs have no respect for Architects.

The easiest thing they could do to appease us is to give us color options on furniture. Have they? No. In fact they say that it would be too hard for them to give us a color option on furniture.
