So I got an order from a friend for a large house. I figure, having trained Furniture IV, that I can afford to try slightly higher complexity items without too much fear. Anyway, I'm also a resident of Talus, because of which I automatically have 2 fewer lots (In case you didn't know, generic houses are more complex, often require more materials to create, require more lots, and of course...are considerably smaller) I'm also a somewhat casual player. I don't have several accounts to use lots from. I have some friends that I use for a couple, but that's about it. To get all the materials required for a large house took about, I'd say, 2 1/2 days. Not too bad, all considered. I would be getting 125k for it!

So I collect the ore, collect the steel. I'm a casual player, so I build things in my factory to get xp, and also because I've noticed the statistical proof that Furniture IV has higher failures than Furniture III, it's about my only safeguard. As soon as I manage to get the materials together, Sony changes factory xp without documenting it. Pretty standard SOE, I've played their games, the unprofessionalism is hardly a groundbreaking surprise. No big deal.

So I start making modules. Get through all of them finally. 110. Fortunately I only had 27 failures this time. Only 5400 ore and 1850 copper lost.

So I make my wall module schematic. Critical Failure, of course. Make the second just fine. Craft 10 more structural modules to make up for the failure.

Let's get started on placingthe factory, which requires twice as much space and lots as any other factory despite architects' need for twice as many lots as any other crafter. I have my friend place it as his since I have no lots. I access the schematic just fine. Input hopper? Can't access, even with admin. Output hopper? No access. So, in addition to having to lug 100 structural modules from my house to the factory (it only took 2 hours, no big deal, maybe quicker if the other admins could pick up items), I had to give them to my friend to put them in. It would also have been easier to trade with my friend if his avatar had not gone invisible during the process.

So we wait a while, hunt for about 10-15 minutes, and they're done. Well...9 of them anyway. Apparently the 10th disappeared into oblivion...and there are no materials remaining in the input hopper. So I take the 9 back to my house and craft the final 10 structural modules and wall module by hand. A success with only 2 structural module failures! So I have 10 wall modules...well, I would if I could separate the 9 from the crate. I log out. Log in. Wait 10 minutes. Logout. Login. Wait 30 minutes. They finally open. Well...half of them. Half to wait a while on the others. Craft the turbine for the power module. Crit Failure. Craft another one (running low on aluminum now). Craft the power core. Grab the structural modules from the crates.

Sit in the seat by my crafting station. Port over while sitting to a spot all the way across my house. Walk back. Sit again. Begin crafting Large Generic House.

Critical Fail.

Factories may be better off not giving xp. Probots may be overpowered. Smugglers probably shouldn't be allowed to chain slice terminals. AFK surveying was probably due for a decreasein power. But there are bugs in this game so frustrating and so infuriating, that it is personally insulting that SOE has chosen to devote its efforts to nerfing. Perhaps between their doubtless forthcoming nerfs of headshots or doctor buffs they'll look into actually changing some horrendously bugged things positively. Fix Structure Assembly and lower the impact and frequency of Critical Failures.

hehe in my memory from beta 3, the only time the Dev pay some serous attention to Arch was when they had a little competition to see who can build the first PA Hall(to make sure PA hall can be build). Turn out there's like 3 or 4 different bugs that prevent PA Hall being build and several master arch had to wait for the dev to fix them before PA hall can be built.

useless fact of the day 1: did you know that in beta, a factory would not build anything that had a resource requirement over 250?(ie turbine gen require 500 alum and cannot be built, discover during the PA Hall competition)

useless fact of the day 2: did you knwo that in beta, resources stack havea max limit of ONLY 250? Imagine lugging around 20k worth of resources in little 250 stacks

Lets say a professional mountain climber starts climbing a 100-meter cliff face at the same time a professional runner starts an 100-meter dash. Who gets to the end of their task first? Obviously the runner. So, the runner is faster, lets put him on the mountain. But guess what? He knows nothing about mountain climbing and gives up before getting to the top. Maybe the professional climber can help him, sure, but that will only slow him down.

So what does all that malarky mean? People seem to think SOE is ignoring the big bugs and going for the less significant things. The people working on the big bugs are the mountain climbers tackling the mountains, and the people working on the other things that seem less important are the sprinters running the dash. The big bugs take longer to fix than the other simpler things, and taking the "sprinters" and putting them on the "mountain" won't do much good.

SOE isn't ignoring the big bugs, they're trying to fix them too. Sometimes it takes longer however.

A simple integer change for critical failure probabilities after a given skill check hardly seems rocket science., and certainly no more difficult than totally altering Probot statistics.

The issue is not big problem versus little problem, but negative correction versus positive correction. SOE is so fixated on nerfing that many important, easy to fix problems that could be addressed by positive correction are being ignored.

I read the boards today oh boy
About a lucky man who made a house
And though the post was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh
I said he sold at half.
He blew his time made only cost
He didn't know that he could run missions
A crowd of people /told and buged
They'd heard his name before
Nobody was really sure
If he would sell a House for Ore.
I saw an arch today oh boy
The Rebbel Army had just won the war
A crowd of people cheared away
I just made a million
Having just sold to both
I'd love to have less ore.

Woke up, loged into bed,
Dragged my comb across my fur
Found my way downstairs and made some walls,
And looking up I noticed I was late.
Found my skem and grabbed my ore
Made a house in hours flat
Found my way upstairs and had a gloat,
"i'm a millionar, this has got to be dream!"

I read the boards today oh boy
Four thousand creds for a small, naboo home
And though the pay was rather small
They got to sell them all
Now they know how many houses it takes to fill the server.
I'd love to have less ore.
