You used tobe able to craft items and at the final stage in the naming part use hex code to colorize the text, but they stopped that from working sometime ago in one of the patches

That ability was removed from the game over a year ago.
Any item (other than packs) that has colored text in its name was crafted back when it was still possible.

They added items with "special attributes" and those items have yellow names.
There may have been other reasons, too, but that's the one I remember. I wasn't paying much attention back then.

I think another reason might have been that people were going a little overboard / creative with the colors and things were looking obnoxious. (rainbow effects, etc) And SOE or LucasArts likes to keep the color palettes in the game a certain way so it looks Star Wars'y (i.e. no vibrant pinks etc)

I remember reading somewhere a dev saying that it had been removed because ithey were thinking of giving the abilty to do it through an interface to master merchants or something so they could colourise their sales and have more visibility on the bazaar, then they changed their minds as it would be unfair.

Hawtpants may be the most un-Star Wars'y thing in the game.

Colored text made the ability to put up premium auctions on the bazzar pointless. So it was removed to allow premium auctions to be preimum somehow.....
