Thread: A thought to extend the Architect profession

First off, I'm going to say this: I'm not an architect, I'm not even an artisan. But a good friend of mine is working his way up the tree from scratch right now (he just got novice a couple of days ago) and he'd expressed his concerns about the profession, specifically that structures don't decay. So my sincerest appologies if my idea has been stated before, but I thought I'd throw it into the mix anyways.

Right now, once you own a house, that's it, you own a house, and as long as you pay your maintenance it doesn't poof. The problem is, everyone and their sister owns a house already; for those new to the profession, it's a bit difficult to sell your first high-ticket item.

My idea is not to have house structures degrade and decay to the point of disappearing, but to make the home maintenance rise in proportion to the amount of decay the house has, and have Architects be able to reverse the decay (thus saving the owner money in the long run). Decay would be a relatively slow process, meaning a 1/4 increase in maintenance cost if the house has decayed for a month, 1/3 for six weeks, 1/2 for two months, etc. It would add up.

It would be up to the Architect if and how much they wanted to charge for house repairs, since it would also cost materials to do so, in proportion to the amount of decay the building had. Some beginning architects might repair small houses for free, to gain the XP, while Masters, the only ones able to repair PA Halls, would likely stand to make a pretty penny.

From you guys who know this subject, does it sound at all feasable?
