Thread: Yall know best Are Houses Stable Yet?
I belive so yes.
You may have to resort to the /move command if you place/drop things close together, but as far as I can tell they seem to be as safe as any other container.
No, I would certainly not consider houses to be stable yet... here's what I have seen so far (up to today):
1 ) Myhouse (medium tat), has many spots where I walk through a door and wind up in neverland.. All I see are stars all around and the room I walked out of.. very sci-fi looking, but I would hate to get lost, because I may never find the magic door again.
2) Certain items in houses (like vendors), still cannot bo moved or turned within a house. This is extremely aggravating, but at least doesn't cost money.
3) Missions in my living room. Have you ever come home to find a womprat lair wedged nicely between your sofa and your end table? It's a horrible mess.
4) Public/Private houses. If my house is private, I cannot call my droids or pets in my house. I have to leave my house to call them. This wouldn't be a problem if I could find a way to get the Bandits and Dragonets to stop camping my front door. However, I *could* make my house public to call my pet, but both him andI would get eaten by the aforementioned bandits and dragonets as they marched through my livingroom. (/eject does not work in battle mode just in case your wondering)
5) Even when my house is Private, some critters still manage to get into my house and kill me. Being an architect, my battle skills are not exactly in the best shape and I have trouble dealing with a lot of different creatures. It's really fun when you burst run home past several lairs of baddies, run into your house and down to your basement and have several camps spontaneously appear with me. (By the way, running home, jumping into the basement and /quit'ting out sometimes works).
6) Here's one I love. Imagine coming home to find a raider camp sitting where your house was. It's not that my house was missing, per se, it's that the raiders decided to raise the terrain (is there a backhoe droid?), and actually bury my house under the landscape. Luckily for me, a few friends were around to take down the camp and lower the terrain so I could see my house again.
7) Ghosts. Yes, my house is haunted by the mighty Bandit King. When you target a critter, you get the little blue box outline on him and his name on top. The mob is in my house (he follows me around like a lost puppy), but I can't actually see him and I can't attack him (and most importanly, he can't attack me). However, I do go into battle mode when he's around so certain options don't work (like sitting, crafting, logging out, etc). When he is there, I can't leave my house as he will pop right on top of me, and I know (from previous experiences), that he's a real nasty shot and can take me down in 2 shots. He's not always in my house, but he's always in the neighborhood and knows how to find me really quick. Oh yes, for those of you who say, "he will go away", he's been rattling chains around my house and dragging his friends along for a laugh for 3 days now, and it's getting really old.
Other than that, houses work just fine. If you can deal with these minor annoyances, then go ahead and get yourself a house!
If by stable you mean items you drop don't magically disappear never to be seen again, then yes, they are stable in my experience. Some items can't be targetted once dropped, some others can't be moved, but you can work around this with the slash commands.
Mobs targetting you and you unable to do anything while "under attack" is a problem. The only solution is to /quit or wait till someone kills the mob. At least mobs won't come inside a house, unlike npcs, who will chase you in, DB or incap you, and camp yourbody if given half a chance. (They stayed out of houses for a while in beta, but somehow that got broken and never fixed again.)
There's been a recent bug since the Big Patch (tm) where if you are on a balcony, you can't see anyone else on the balcony nor can they see you (at least in med tat homes, dunno about others). Also, if you sit on the balcony, you fall through it eventually, ending up on a cement slab with only your door and house sign visible. No damage done, but it's annoying.
I've never seen the "star room", sounds neat ![]()
Ok, I decided to try the "star room" again, and found out how it works and the damage you can do...
In my medium tat house, I put a bunch of torches right in front of the doorway leading to the basement stairs. This caused a little bit of client-side lag, and allowed me to run through the torches and into the stairwell. The lag seems to cause the client to not register the stairs and puts you in an alternate place. At that point, all you can see is the sky and your room (I have some nice screenshots) - so if it's nighttime, you see stars, and blue sky if in the daytime.
I decided to go for a walk at this point. I set my waypoint for the nearest city and began running... then it got really odd. I popped up onto the landscape at some point, and the world was eerily quiet. There were no nests, no buildings, no npc's, no mobs, no people... nothing but landscape and other static objects (like buildings in a city). I wandered around through this alternate dimension for awhile and I felt like I was in the movie 'The Quiet Earth'.
Eventually, I logged out to try and set myself right and wound up fixed to the landscape where I originally popped onto the landscape. I used /unstick and /eject a couple of times, my client then reloaded and I appeared back in my livingroom.
Best part about the whole thing is that I recieved no aggro during my entire trip, but when I got back, the ghost of the Bandit King was still waiting for me. Good to see such faithfulness.

Ive been wanting to buy a house for a long time now, but ive waited due to a TON of horror stories, so are houses stable yet or not?
Stable? no. Fun? yes. Just buy one, and I'm not saying that because I'm a (departing) architect. I actually really enjoy having a medium house with a big showroom, house pets, cool furniture, lots of workspace etc. It creates a great lag-free environment to work from, chat with friends, and store stuff in an organized way.
Some funny house happenings? I've been "inside the walls" before when a friend and I both entered a door at the same time. Everything was white! I've also moved/rotated furniture inside the walls, never to see it again. I've come out of my house, taken shots at nearby aggro spawns, rushed back in the house only to see the monsters chase me inside the house, and continue the battle inside!Nothing like seeing your house littered with dead animal carcuses! hehehe I've had imperial camps spawn right next to my house, andmassive and entertaining gun battles with thunderous explosions to watch right in my front yard.
On the practical side, it is *so* nice having a house and a vendor, and have people drop stuff off for me there, or drop off stuff for others there. It's almost like having a delivery service working for you. You can also heal and call droids inside your house. It's also a great "known spot" on the map where you can survey for resources, and then run missions there and make money. If I'm working and need some bone or hide or whatever I just step outside, shoot some stuff, and I'm good.
So see what fun you're missing? hehehe

Ydetro, your character needs to kick the spice habit. Those are some nasty hallucinations there.![]()
