Thread: Elite-Elite professions, the beginning of a set template?
Right now the game is pretty open.
You can be a very good mix of skills various professions.
However, will elite elite professions kill that?
Artisan -> Architect -> UP
Thats like 180 points. leaving nothing to do ANYTHING else... sounds exactally like a template to me.
When every class has elite-elite skills Sw:G loses thier clam to openness they had over over games like DAoC.
Everyone will be their elite elite bountyhunter, elite elite pistoller, elite elite doctor, etc..
and then elite-elite-A > elite-elite-B who is > elite-elite-C but elite-elite-C > elite-elite A
So basically.
Scout > Ranger > Hunter > Scout for anyone who plays DAoC.
That sucks
My template= Master Architect and Master Armorsmith and Novice Pistoleer
As soon as the mounts or Swooper Bikes (if the mounts really suck)are released I will dump the Scout certs and will have 60 points left over.
It should not be easy to be an Urban Planner. If it was then anyone could be one. If I need to surrender skills to build city structures, then so be it. I will do so long enough to build our city then get the surrendered certs back.
Urban Planner is NOT a viable longterm profession. Unless of the course the Devs drag their ass and only release two buildings every month.
Just how many cities do you thinkthese small planets can support?
You're right to a point. You will have to make tough decisions before moving to an Elite Elite profession but I think you might be looking at it incorrectly.
You mentioned DAOC. SWG classes can not even begin to compare to DAOC. EVERY class in DAOC was geared towards combat. Thats what that game was about. So every class got compared to each other by their combat effectiveness.
In SWG how can you compare an Elite Elite Architect to an Elite Elite Bountyhunter? You cant.
Almost every class has its own reason for existing. They do their own things. A big part of them have no natural combat abilities other than /attack.
If you wanted to the DAOC comparisons thing the only thing you could justifiedly argue about and compare is the four"damage types" professionsRifleman, Pistoleer, Carbineer, and Brawler.
As far as Bountyhunters are concerned, the player who wishes to be a Master Bountyhunter will give up almost all of their points for it, they have 33 point left afterward.
That does not make them elite-elite, as Urban Planner is refered to as, that makes them...well far be for me to criticize another player for wasting all their points just to be able to one-shot kill another player.
Who else is thinking the way they will limit cities is rare resources? If masters in the elites need specifics already what will elite elite's need?
Start stockpiling 100k of everything now.
Until there is a real reason to be an architect in the first place, does it really matter?

The saddest thing is that Holo had said that specializing was a "sub-optimal" way of playing the game.
Now we have in essance, forced specialization. Unless there are post-elite skill points added, anyone venturing in the post-elites will be totally gimped in nearly everything else. The is only enough skill points to Master 3 professions, and even then, only if you do it right.
A lot of the pre-reqs (bounty hunter) are too extreame, giving way to cookie cutter players. In other professions, the pre-reqs are too easy, creating an over abundance of that profession (or just everyone dabbling in it, ala creature handlers).
The skill point system needs a revamp. It's not working and is too hard to find a balance in either crafting "power" or combat power.
I do like the idea of the current skill system, but I would have divided it up a bit differently. I would like seperate skill point pools for each area. They could be divided either horizontally or verticaly.
Horizontal
Skill points would be split between Base, Elite and Post Elite skill areas. As a path was chosen, other "parallel" professions would be either totally or partially gated to the player automatically. (i.e. No Master Architect/Master Weaponsmith). Double Masters could be allowed in the Base professions,or in non-parallel Elites but not inPost-Elites at all.
Vertical
Skill points would be split between Artisan, Combat and Support. Skill points could be migrated between the three pools like Stat Migration. Each pool would have a minimum and maximum cap that would insure that no more thenthree professions could be Mastered at the same time.
Two other alternitives (using the current system) would be:
Allow a player to open up a single post elite profession at the cost of gating all other post elites. That way, a Master Architect/Master Droid Engineer could be either an Urban Planner or a Vehicle Builder, but not both. No skill points would be required, just pure XP.
-or-
Grant enough post-elite skill points to Master a single profession, but have all post elite professions open to them (keeping with the "dabbler" theory we are currently using).
Anyway, just a few thoughts. I know they'll never do a skill system revamp. They'll just keep screwing around with this one, even though it could be far better. Maybe it'll give them a few ideas for SWG2.

The Urban Planner abilities should just be inserted into the Architect tree. The Architect faces obsolesence over the long term due to no decay leading to market saturation. Inserting Urban Planner abilities into the profession would at least delay that obsolesence.
100% agreed.
Any profession based on Architect as it is now... is a waste of time. If the devs start releasing new professions without addressing themajority of issues facing all the old ones, I'm pretty sure I'd cancel my subscription within the week.
In the meantime, check this link here and bump it with some content if you care about the problems Architects face:
