Hello there everyone. I'm currently an Engineer IV and am shooting for one of the elite professions such as Architect, Droid Engineer etc. There is a common rule that something gives you 2 exp for every resource involved in making it. So a 20 resource item would give you 40 crafting experience. I recently started making harvesters when I got close to engineering IV to push me over the edge because they have almost 200 resources in them. I built about 5-7 today and noticed that my Novice Architect experience pool had not changed at all. Sometimes the experience bar on the main screen is bugged so I went under the skills menu to make sure. Sure enough it had not moved at all. Is this a bug or do harvesters really not count towards crafting experience. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Harvesters count towards Structure Crafting Exp, not General Crafting Exp. I ginded scopes for Architect... they have a 1:4 ration with resources to exp.

Yeah harvesters are structure crafting exp, not general crafting exp. They won't help you get to novice architect (oddly enough).

Ahh yes, the Grind:

Two crafting kits (the general and weapons), and craft scopes..

the key is not to move the mouse that much.. use the "Enter" key and have your kits kotkey'ed.. then when selecting the resorce in the blueprint, double click it with the mouse (dont drag and drop this will only slow you down).. the resource will then be automaticly entered into the blueprint..

when done right, you'll get about 2500 GCXP per 20 Minutes invested..

To restate above:

Harvesters won't get you to Novice Architect. Once you have NA, you can then use them FOR architecture, not TIL then. 825 combines to make NA from powerups. 5 hours straight. 5k metal, 3.5k chem.

if you have a good line on bone and hide, making armor and getting it out makes for a way more interesting way of doing it without grinding. you make money, make valuable contacts (customers) and get the residual use xp that makes armor a better way to go. It starts slow, but can build steam fast.. it got to the point that by the time I finished one set of armor, and got it on the bazaar, I had enough uxp rolling in that I was netting about 3k xp per set, and if I stopped making armor to chat with someone or to go look for hide and bone, or whatever, I was still rolling in the xp.

A buddy of mine started working toward novice armorsmith at the same time I started for architect. I had 2 times as far to go. He got ahead immediately with his grinding powerups scheme. I took my time, made some scout contacts, worked a couple deals with some scouts, made a couple sets of armor, a couple weapons (good cdef pistols, etc..) and by the time he was halfway to novice armorsmith, I was 2k away from novice architect, and I got that 2k by sitting around chatting with some people about the advantages of my armor over the competitions. I then collected over 6k in residuals after I trained NA and stopped making gcxp products..

This may be a little more difficult since there is so much bone armor out, but there are always some newbs out there looking for an NPC vendor to buy the "uber leet" gear, and they are so much fun to sell to.. Just dont try to buy hide and bone from ex-EQ players that are just starting.. they seem to think you are crazy that you wont give them 1000 credits for their 14 bristley hide and 6 avian bone.

BTW, I understand if you get dom3 or 4, the travel pack gives like 140 xp or something like that.. more fiberplast needed, but hay.. its fast if you wanna grind, and you van actually sell some.. I think my buddy that went for armorsmith and found out that he nedded synthetic cloth did packs to grind the xp, and sold about half of them.. goes 3 times faster than powerups and he netted a few k credits too..
