You can't undeclare your residence (unless you deed the house you reside in) but you can change your residence by choosing a new one. The change takes place immediately.

Although I haven't tried it, I'd imagine you could undeclare residence immediately without redeeding a house by simply using /transferstructure to a trustworthy buddy, and have him /transfer it right back. Has this been tried before?

No, my friend transferred a house to me, then they didn't get back their plot for having it be their declared residence...

So I tried to declare then "undeclare" just to see if it worked, and now I'm stuck without a plot too... so I'm going to have to redeed the house to get both of our plots back I guess...

no, you LOSE a lot for declaring residence... the tricky thing is, once you've done so you basically can never have that plot back unless you redeed the house you are declared to...

That can't be right... I had 4 lots available when I first got my large house. It said I needed 6. So I freed up two lots and placed it. I then declared residence there. 6 lots - large house. 2 lots - structural factory. 2 lots - mineral mining installation. Where would the residence lot come in?

Dunno, this is just from experience... my medium naboo house takes 3 slots, and a fourth ifI declare residence... however, there are no benefits to this atm because any public building acts as a declared residence for whoever walks into it, meaning you can call pets etc.....
