Thread: crafting stations using optional items problem

Using somewhat quality copper only, and not even the best at that, I can make a crafting station with a functionality rating of +10 to +12.

I used the same metal, but added all of the optional components. Except for the droid storage, I made all of the components myself, and experimented on each subcomponent as I worked.

My finished advanced crafting station came out with a rating of -13 even after experimentation.

Does anyone know why this would be? I used high quality materials on each sub component, so I know they were quality...all except the droid compartments, but even those I got from a Master DE.

Thanks in advance for any help, or for sharing your experiences...

For me, the optional subcomponents are either all or nothing, if you don't have them all experiamented to 99%, it is better to not use them at all. I do mean all of them, not with the droid stroage compartments missing. They are added into the equation when calculating the effeciency, and if you don't have them, guess what they are still calcualed in. So, my friend, either use all optionals or no optionals at all.

Inserting bad subcomponents is worse than leaving them out altogether. If the MSSs, CUs, and droid storage units are themselves of low qality, it is better to just leave them out or they will tend to drag down the overall efficiency rating of the entire station. I tested this out with my second account (an architect obviously) and have had this confirmed by other architects as well.

Sure, I used all of the components...but I can't validate the droid storage components were high quality. I do know they weren't sub standard, but it didn't help my final product, in fact, if I just grabbed some junk metal, threw it into my crafting tool, and made a station, it would come out at about -11. When I use highly experimented items, and high quality metal...experiment the final station like mad...my rating DROPS to -13?

I just would have expected a better rating...I figured about a +25...

The subcomponents don't need to be experimented to 99%, that's a load of garbage. I make stations that rate at 40 using components in the 96% range all the time. In fact the sensor suites never break 88% (so far) for me.

I've noticed that mediocre components have no effect, and bad component have a negative effect. For example, I used 86%-ish sensor suites and 96% control units and get stations at 35. I added in some droid compartments that were experimented probably to 80% and the number didn't change.

However, when I added in storage at 92%, the eff went to 39. And storage compartments at 96% made the stations break 40.

These were all factory components and I've done it numerous times, so it's very consistent. BTW I'm master artisan and Master arch, so I made them all myself, except the DE parts came from a DE/Master artisan. If you want the best stations, ya have to use the best parts. However using decent parts won't hurt and might help a little. But cruddy parts will definitely drop the number into negatives.

FYI - Sensor suites have the largest impact of all the components, so if you want to make mid-range stations for cheaper, just make a crate of good sensor suites and forget the other two. I've sold a number of mid-prices stations rated around 20-25 using just sensor suites and good copper. Putting in just control units has a much smaller effect.

The sub components for the MS are imporant as well, even if they do nothing for the effectiveness of the MS. You can make a 85% MS with bad or good sub compartments and get a bad station with the bad componets or a good station with the good ones. You can't short cut those. You'll get good results with anything in the over 60% range. Below that and you are hurting yourself.
