Is there a list of how many items you can have in a building anywhere? Figured architects were the best people to ask. If not, could anyone tell me how many items there can be in a Guild Hall? Thanks.

From the FAQ stickied at the top:
Q-1.2: How much can you store in a house?
A-1.2: The rule is 100 per lot with a max of 400 , which translates to:
Smalls or medium = 200, Large or Guild = 400. Naboo style 2 small (round) = 100.
Note: House storage limits were changed with patch 13.0

Grrrrr. 400...
I am a Master Shipwright and I like to keep a stock of components and upgrade parts on hand, not to mention resources for making those parts along with many other things my profession offers. I have maxed out my large house in three days time in relation to capacity. I am stuck to using vendors for storage, which I dont like all to well. It would be nice to have a building that is made for storage with a high capacity, or even a crafting building, which would cater to placing a crafting station or two and have a high capacity of storage space. I would use extra lots for storage buildings, but my single toon is using those for Mining and Factories.
What are the areas used for experimentation on building deeds? Im guessing there isnt a experimentation aspect for building capacity is there?

We can not experiment on buildings to increase storage. I think theres an experimentation line on buildings for 'durability' or something like that, but it doesnt' do anything at all.
Max storage used to be 250 items until a few months ago.

It makes me happy to hear that is was increased. I guess it would be to much to keep this complaint up in the air right now, I will find workarounds. Thanks for the info.

What was the original "limit" for items?
Wasn't it like 25?
Wasn't it like 25?
It's been so long that I've forgotten.
I mean it was clearly a "lowball offer so we thought their final solution wasn't so bad" kind of tactic, but it was pretty bad.
I still don't see why there isn't a true 100 item/lot limit. What's the point of the artificial 400 item cap?

You might accidentally have too much fun decorating with 500 items, and it might go to your head and drive you crazy, so the Devs are protecting you for your own good. Trust me

Well, as long as they're doing it for my protection then it's ok.

If I'm not mistaken, items placed in cabinets, armoires, chests and bookcases do not count against you max limit. So if you had a chest full of 50 items, the only item that would count toward your max count is the chest, and not the contents. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure this is the way it works. I can't believe that 400 of those would not hold everything that you would need.

That is incorrect. Any item placed in house, regardless of whether it is in a container or not counts toward the item limit. There was a bug for a while that items placed inside crafting station hoppers didn't count towards the limit, but that was changed a while back.
