Thread: I had a thought about the textures on the outside of buildings...

Forgive me if this has already been covered.

One of the things the developers are always harping on is attempting to make the game feel more "Star-Warsy". I thought up a simple way to accomplish this.

Enable players to make the textures on their buildings match the planet.

So, for instance, if someone's placed a generic house on Tatooine, they could at their option enable the building to look "sand blasted" like the rest of the houses on the planet. Or, if they build it on Naboo, they can make the thing look like the rest of Naboo's architecture.

I know a great number of people who opt for the Generic houses just because they don't like the floorplans on the classic houses normally found on the planet. Or else they take them just because that's what their city architect was churning out. In either case, it would be nice to be able to make them match.

Whatcha think?

"So what you’re asking is “can a lightsaber block a magic missile?” The answer is no. A magic missile always hits its target. Period. The Jedi would move to block the missile, the missile would move, the Jedi would move to intercept again, the missile would move again, etc. Eventually the Jedi would tire or make a mistake and that’s when the Magic Missile would hit." -- Red Mage

It probably has been brought up a number of times already, but maybe it's time to consider it as a top 5 issue candidate once one of the others (like OMU crating) is resolved. We should probably push furniture colorization first, simply because it has been an issue for so long.

This goes along with variant colors for building exteriors. I would like to see architects either be able to sell kits for players to do this, or be able to do it as a service. I don't think there is much market created by all houses suddenly acquiring the ability to be texturized on the outside.

I imagine that color and texture might reasonably be limited based on the planet type of the structure, or to the planet of placement. For instance, a Nabooan house might not have the same customizations as a Corellian house. As for the specific example of a sandblasted appearance, only Tatooine and generic houses are used on "sandblasting" planets, and the Tatooine style structures already look sandblasted. I don't know how much color and texture change should apply to Nabooan structures;perhapssome customizations for those could take the form of vines, as on some of the non-player Nabooan structures.

Yeah an automatic system would be good. Change the texture as it is placed on a different planet.

This is something that has always been a gripe for me, generic houses on tatooine look so out of place, i love the layout of these houses inside etc, but they just look out of place in the sand, maybe they should be made so that if theyre placed on tat they get a rusted/sandblasted texture that is more toned down and makes them stand out less.
