Thread: Architect Local 104 On Strike
Hi guys,
I propose we pick a period of time (maybea week or two, beginning at an agreed upon date) and NOT build anything for anyone (except ourselves).
Anyone asks, we'll tell 'em we're on strike. 'Cause we ain't happy.
Might be fun. Maybe Darth Vader himself will come and beg us to finish that outhouse for him.
Get a quick taste of the proposed merchant changes... Load up some heavy harvs for sale on a bulky machine vendor... Then watch the maintenance rate...
That's what they are planning to "fix" the NPC merchants to do...
Of course, this is just one of our issues. If you need more to be unhappy about, just take a quick look thru all the sticky threads up top.
Hope that helps... and remember... Being unhappy is the way to happiness.

Vendors are evil. Way too expensive unless there is already a line of customers at the machine. That percentage cost maintenance rate really doesnt make having a vendor worth it.
The strike idea would be fun though, just to shake people up. But there would be those archs that just make more money off of something like that. I'm not unhappy as an architect, but that doesnt mean I dont like rocking the boat for fun.
It would also be cool if you could start other factions. Get all of the crafters, and make the Business Faction, which would obviously be the faction that really rules the galaxy.Imps and Rebelswould have a heck of a time taking us down with their 10-35dmg CDEF pistols and bone armor, now wouldnt they? muhahaha
I know something we could be unhappy about. The cheap cost of architectural deeds. It takes us time, risk, and resources to generate a deed of any value (say Medium ThingaMaJig).
The prices, though, that we charge - aren't in line with the effort and material. I see architects hawking small houses for 8k. I see medium houses or factories for 40-45k.
Now, just taking into consideration that a medium house or medium factory takes about 14k in total resources to generate - and if you go to the bazaar, you'll never find any of those resources for under 3:1 per unit - why are we shortchanging ourselves? We should be charging the cost of the resource as well as the cost of our time and effort. OK, so if a deed took 14k in resources, at 3:1 (per unit costs on bazaar) would make 42k. Then, tack on your time and effort. 50k at least, right?
There seems to be some sort of mentality that architects shortchange themselves - and it also is driven by the players who say, "LOL! I know another architect who'll make me a large house for 20k!" and that nonsense. To get the business - we drop our prices.
I'm saying that maybe we should become a bit more unified and standardized in our pricing. Not let the other players drive our prices down, and we the architects determine the prices that the other yahoos are going to pay for our product.
After all, if we all started charging 250k for a wearables, eq, or food factory - after the other classes go on a rant - they WILL have to buy it from us, as we're the ones who make it. I understand that is an absurd price analogy - but all I'm really trying to point out is that it should be us, the architects who drive the price.
Weaponsmiths spend little resource and make gigantic per-unit profit. Sometimes 15 to 20:1 on the units used to the end result. We're really nailing ourselves by only charging an average of 3:1 or less for the final product.
Oh please have a strike!!
Oh please oh please......
( evil grin )
Of course I dont beling to yorur union....
Just for the record, I've never dropped my price based on someone saying "...well so-and-so will sell it to me for x amount."
My response to that statement has always been "That's a rockin' price. You should go buy from him/her."
Polite, but to the point.
Fact is, when you reach Master Architect and your skill points get maxxed, there's really no reason whatsoever to continue building structures and selling them.
You won't get any more experience, there's nothing tying you to the house you built, so no ego benefit there either, nothing to differentiate your house from someone else's, there's better money from raw resources, no boring clicking, no risk of final assembly failures, etc.
Now I build rarely and then mostly for fun or to help out some of our village residents. I refer most of the tells I get to other Architects (the ones still taking business, that is).
When I do sell, except in rare circumstances where I may do a favor, it's at full price. That means 175k for a fusion plant, for example, if I happen to have one in stock.Offer me anythingless than that and I'll respond with a polite referral.
Sell cheap if you want. I'll even send you business or sell you resources with my blessings. I build myself the big toys and then just let them make me rich selling raw material. No pressure, no boring clicking, no failures.
It's good ta be da Mastah.
