(this i wrote in the furniture sticky, but didn't mean to hijack that thread in the first place so i decided to repost it as is): a bit i want to add, IMHO, these alternate things like coloring furniture, new a better stuff, really should be put into a separate profession, don't cram everything into the architect profession, as we are already in abundance (it's not hard to get engineering 4 then to Master Weaponsmith+Master Armorsmith+Master Architect. just takes some time). with the upcoming City Planner profession, i'm betting at least 3-5 of every 10 architects will head in that direction, making building cities again, only left for the really famous, and the rest of the CPs? left bored and either switch jobs or quit the game(as some impatient kids always do, nvm that). why not balance this out? city planners are really not that useful since there are not that many player cities, say 50? 100? per server? so we may need 5-10? what about the rest of the architects? Interior Designer + Civil Engineer should be the way to go to make architects continue to have a use in game rather than another nerf for the game(decay system for houses is, sorry to say, pathetic at best).

here's the original post:

i definitely like the coloring furniture idea, but lets add to that and make it a prof on it's own? requirement furniture 4 + construction 4? Interior Designer profession to counter balance the city planner prof. i agree that there are far too many architects per server right now, and if city planner does go ahead, really there'll be only need for a handful of city planners in each galaxy, and since each city planner will already be a "master of the architect profession", they'll still be able to do everything a master architect can do, so if we add to the archi trees, it won't solve the problem of too many archis, so why not rather have an additional prof that's dedicated to furniture styles and colors? it's a great money sink (as since i'm only lv 1 furniture and there already are so many nice customers gobbling up all my furniture from my vendors), and to be able to color coordinate your furniture with your wardrobe? that would be very cool indeed, albeit not necessary, but then, when u have money to spare, who cares about necessity?

4 Branches? how about:

Furnishings: actual furniture, chairs, tables, etc..
Electronics: stereos, holographic projectors, etc..
Decorations: wall art, rugs, many non-functional items. (can also decorate outdoors alongside city planners during say.....festivals, events)
Gardening: plants, flowers, etc... some possibly able to hang outside your building on 'faux' windowsills, etc..

Furnishings will have the assembly increases
Decorations will have the experimentation increases

i really don't want an even more crowded archi environment to work with. as of yet, on Flurry, generic resource price is about 3:1 ratio (3 creds per unit), and many archi's are subjected to 3:1 ratio or lower to be able to sell their non-furniture goods, like deeds for small/medium houses or medium installations (famous master archi's like Nol aside).

most of the ideas are taken from others in this thread. thx, great ideas. hope u guys like this one too, and it's not as skill pt costly as u'd think since only 1 or 2 archi lines will be needed to get novice Interior Designer, rather than master the entire archi tree, leaving way enough points to get some weapon/scouting skills for the hide harvesting.

related idea: how about remaking the "miner" prof into another archi elite prof? one that requires installation 4 + something else to get to? which will power up the current capabilities of harvesters and factories? one that can incorporate the idea of 'decay' into houses and possibly even decay/maintenance of player city constructions like banks, cantinas, bridges, roads, etc? a Civil Engineer? (i really haven't thought this one thru, just came from top of my head as i was writing up the Interior Designer class)

perhaps they'll be able to 'decorate towns' whereas the City Planner decides how roads will be lined up. Civil Engineers can build bridges for CP's to place, a LOT more interaction than what current crafting professions have with each other. all archis do now are craft stations and tools for other crafters (DE, WS, AS, Med, Scout/Rangers, BE). and between the rest of them there are practically no interaction. can't make med poison to 'upgrade' a T21 with, can't make weapon/armor for droids or a bantha mounted cannon. so far so bored. no interaction. i know it's off the furniture topic but i just want to write some observations i've seen of how much archis can do. really not a lot for the game right now. btw, archi + CH? you know how there are large variations for saddles and seats for elephants in Thailand? well, bantha, ronto, bolle-bols are sort of like elephants. i wouldn't mind seeing this herd of bantha's with towed/saddled mini-houses on them, sorta like a travelling caravan/circus type deal. one that cannot be put in inventory and hidden for your comfort, but will carry a TON of stuff to smuggle/trade between cities or even planets.

bleh, wrote too much already and that's just off the top of my head.
(oh ya, Devs, let us color furniture. plz)

c'mon, no one thinks this is better than just adding tons of stuff to make for architects? u do realize there's a major overflow of archi's at the moment, and if we get to create more stuff, that'll only make even more players turn archi. if such furniture and stuff are put into a higher class, it would be much more balancing and won't allow all City Planners to be able to do everything and even out those who want to make colored furniture, and those who want to make player banks and player cantinas.

with these other elite profs, the other ideas like archi-only harvesters or more lots for archi's can be added to said specific profs to be balanced easier. it's already way to easy to become just another archi, let us have some specialist professions too.

along the same lines, other Engi 4 professions also need specialization, our crafting profs are far to easy to reach atm, without specialization, it's too hard to seperate who's really working on the prof or who's just grinding their way to a PA for their guild and then surrendering the class for a fighter (with their grinded items flooding the market)

Personally I like the idea but really don't have much more to add. I definatley would choose this route myself as furniture is pretty much all I do. The only thing that would kill it for me though is if they put a lot of specific resource requirements for the new pieces. It's okay with weapons and things that people NEED to buy and part of the reason those things cost so much. Unless Elite Furniture did something above and beyond specific resources would be nothing more than a huge PITA.

hyposia I have a huge thread detailing major changes but I have found that peoples attentions spans last no more than 30 seconds .... so if it takes longer than 30 seconds to read most people start forgetting what they have read or dont bother to read the rest.... I also proposed moving furniture to a profession called design engineer .... mine goes a bit different route than your because rather than expand furniture into a full profession I kept it one line and added three lines of other design skill lines.
