Thread: Crafting Station Input Hoppers WARNING

While pumping out Heavy Natural Gas Harvesters I noticed how to open the Input Hopper on a Crafting Station finally by holding down left-click on a crafting tool and hilighting Start Crafting. This was the first time I've ever noticed it and started thinking to myself maybe tests have shown function rating of Crafting Stations to be moot because they've all been conducted without the use of the Input Hopper, maybe causing the only benefits to crafting to be from the Crafting Tool. So anyhow, I decided to dump resources into the Input Hopper to run some tests on failure rates to see if Function Rating would make a difference on items crafted out of the Input Hopper.

I'm in the Experimentation phase of a Heavy Natural Gas Harvester, and suddenly my DSL cuts out and I'm dropped to the log-in screen at which point my DSL connection comes back up. I log back in and first thing I realize is the successfully crafted Heavy Natural Gas Harvester had been destroyed when the crafting session died. I can stomache that as CSR's on Naritus are usually pretty quick about reimbursements on items lost to bugs. So I flip open my crafting menu to make another Harvester and what do you know, ALL my resources that was in the Input Hopper of the Crafting Station are gone. I just lost 150k resources inside my Crafting Station by being disconnected. On further testing I discovered that the Crafting Stations Input Hopper deletes itself when a character logs out.

Two Crafting issues I've learned from this.

1) Once the Final Craft takes place on an item, it really needs to be placed in a characters inventory with the default naming if a player is disconnected. The check for failure/success is made before Experimentation, there is no reason for items to disappear in the Experimentation phase.

2) Input Hoppers will delete its contents when a player logs out. This is unacceptable as it can lead to some MASSIVE player losses.

Careful of your Crafting Stations.

That's strange... my input hopper on my private station has been rock reliable since the big patch - much more so than unlocked containers have been... heck, I left some crap resources in my station when I relocated from Tatooine to Naboo, and they were still there... but then, I don't recall going LD while crafting with it, though...

My crafting station has also been completely reliable for weeks now. They seem to work like any container. I've even picked it up, replaced it, and it still had all its contents inside. No problems since they claimed to patch it.

It sounds like you were a victim of your connection cut off, causing some kind of weird short-term rollback. I've seen it happen many times, even to have character that were out killing things warp back into town where they were 5 minutes ago.

Station hoppers are great, and they currently aren't counting correctly against your home's item total, so they are great for organizing your resources/components. (much more convenient than a vendor)

Apparently I've jumped to conclusions, when I log out this station keeps wiping out its contents. Will experiment some more.

This is pure speculation, so don't hold me to this. But, was your crafting station built with a droid storage compartment included as one of the optional components? I know that there are many things in this game that the devs have either failed to mention as existing, or just choose not to for whatever reason. It may be that a crafting station built without it's optional components does not store your resources in it's hopper permanently.

I know for a fact that all of my crafting stations have all of the optional components included, as I built them myself. And to this date, I have not had the problems that you described. *scrambles around for something wooden to knock on* Infact, the only problem that I ever encountered from going Link Dead, or otherwise getting booted from game is coming back only to find that I cannot start a crafting session because the game assumes that I am still in the crafting session I was in before losing connection. (This is resolved by completely logging out and restarting the game.)
